Dish Racks Buying Guide:
Do you want to organize your kitchen counter tops? If you are hand washing or using a dishwasher to wash vessels, you need dish racks to dry them. Sometimes even drying with a cloth doesn't prevent bacterial growth and so dish racks come in handy
Types:
When you are buying dish racks, based on your family size and preference you can choose the type of dish rack that best suits your requirements- Countertop Dish Racks: Dish racks placed over kitchen counters is the standard mode. They let you organize your kitchen space and avoid clutter. They occupy considerable space on the counter so you can go for designer dish racks that beautify your kitchen. If you want your favorite chinaware and glassware to dry without disturbance, then countertop models score over the sink and in the sink models of dish racks
- Over the Sink Dish Racks: If you are used to hand washing vessels and would like to dry them as soon as you wash them, check out over the sink dish racks. They can be placed adjacent to kitchen sinks in your kitchen and they are space saving models
- In the Sink Dish Racks: In the sink dish racks can be placed inside the kitchen sinks. When you are finished washing vessels and you need to dry them in the sink, options are well suited for draining water into the sinks, without messing up your countertops
- Folding Dish Racks: Folding dish racks are convenient models that can be folded when not in use and stored easily. Collapsible dish racks in a variety of styles and designs improve your kitchen decor also
- Electric Dish Dryers: Dryers that effectively dry using electric power are useful for drying large vessels. Electric dish dryers now have temperature control to prevent excessive heat and dish spoilage
Dish Rack Buying Tips:
- When you buy dish racks, check whether you have special provisions for holding plates and cutlery. This will prevent the dishes from rubbing and avoids scratches
- If you think that your dish rack is too small, then go for large two tier dish rack that will help you store pans and pots
- Choose dish racks that have a sloping bottom so that water can drain away easily
- Plastic ,wood and stainless steel are the materials from which dish racks are made
How to Wash a Dish Rack?
Even if you have a dishwasher, chances are you have a dish rack next to your sink as well. It's handy for those times when you just have a few dishes to wash, or the dishwasher is so full it can't fit another fork. Ironically, the dish rack is often dirty, despite only clean dishes being placed in it. Mold and mildew can grow when water puddles in the drip tray, and minerals can accumulate if you have hard water. For a truly clean kitchen, you must clean your dish rack, too

- Empty your dish rack and wipe up any puddles of standing water with a paper towel. (Don't use your dish sponge; this water is likely to be contaminated with bacteria and mold)
- Separate the parts of your dish rack (including unsnapping the utensil holder from the main rack, if possible). Wash each part (dish rack, utensil holder, and drip tray in that order) with dish detergent and a new sponge in hot running water. Scrub in between each rib of the dish rack. Reach into the bottom of the utensil holder so you can scrub it forcefully. If it is too narrow for your hand, use a bottle brush or old toothbrush to get the crud out. Then scrub the drip tray
- Check the tray to make sure all the visible dirt and stains are gone. Use a cotton swab to clean the corners if they are still dirty, or if there is grime in small crevices that you can't reach with a sponge
- Fill the sink with water, and add one tablespoon of bleach for each gallon of water the sink holds. Soak the parts of the dish rack in the sanitizing bleach solution for two minutes. Take them out and let them air dry on paper towels on the counter
How to Dry a Dish Rack?
Dishes image by Towards Ithaca from Fotolia.comWhile you use a dish rack to dry dishes, the rack itself naturally becomes wet in the process. Once the water has evaporated, it often leaves behind white residue from the minerals in the tap water. To prevent this residue from accumulating on the dish rack and making it dirty, dry the dish rack properly
- Remove all dishes from the dish rack. You can dry the dish rack with dishes in it, but the dishes must be dry
- Tip the dish rack sideways over a sink if there are no dishes in it. Remove the cup for utensils and turn it upside down over the sink to remove any pools of water
- Use a cotton towel to wipe the bottom surface of the dish rack until no water is visible. Wipe inside the utensil's cup the same way as well as the front, back and sides of the walls of the dish rack

07-01-2011- Other Thoughts: This dish drainer is great. It is small but has enough room to handle quite a few dishes. Perfect for 1 or 2 people. Takes up very little counter space.

06-27-2011- Other Thoughts: this is a nice narrow dishrack for tight places. the utensil carrier is removable. now my roommate doesn't have to use my half sheet pans to dry the dishes!
the one thing i wish this little rack would do is hold wine glasses (but minor considering how small this is).

06-24-2011- Other Thoughts: I was getting tired of my old dish rack and decided to try out this little stainless steel rack based on the reviews from everybody,...it holds a lot more dishes and utensils than you would ever imagin based on it's size when you first open the box it comes in.
i added some stick on plastic pads on the bottom of the tray to keep it off of counter to prevent marring of the tiles and to promote drying.
i would not hesitate to reconmend this rack to anyone looking for a small compact unit.it's a cutie.

06-23-2011- Other Thoughts: I had looked and looked for something like this, but couldn't find one. I saw this on Amazon and knew it was for me. I have a very small kitchen and needed something that was also small and this is a God send. I believe if you are looking for a small drainer you will be pleasantly surprised, as I was.

06-17-2011- Other Thoughts: Love this rack, its not for households that use a lot of dishes though. It is on the small side and you have to be carefull to not overload it on one side, it may tip up if you put a bunch of dinner plates on one end with no counter weight on the opposite side

06-09-2011- Other Thoughts: Perfect size for what we wanted - just a backup rack for those occasional dishes, utensils and cups that couldn't wait for the dishwasher cycle. One of the few products that I've come across that was exactly as it was described.

06-02-2011- Other Thoughts: Well made item. This was a hard to find item so I am super pleased that the dimensions listed were right and it fit my new little sink. Also like that the bottom drip pan is not built-in making it optional. Hope it holds up over time like a Rubbermaid...
