How to Change a Door Lock?
Before moving into a new house, the first thing you should do is change the door locks for all exterior doors. With a little practice and experience you will be able to change locks quickly with little to no problems. Feel safe and secure in your new home knowing you hold the only keys to the doorsInstructions:
- Look on the door latch to determine the brand of lock. Purchase the same brand of lock to keep from making any adjustments to the door
- Take the measurement of your door's backset. Measure from the latch of the door to the center of the door knob. Standard measurements are 2 3/8 inch to 2 3/4 inch
- Remove the screws from the old door lock. Pull each half of the lock out of the door after the screws are removed
- Remove the screws from the edge of the door. Remove the old lock
- Insert the new lock. Insert the screws into the edge of the door and secure tightly
- Put the front and back of the lock back together inside the door. Reinsert the screws and secure them tightly
Tips & Warnings:
- If the internal lock pieces are the same brand and size, you do not have to replace them
- When replacing the entire lock, glue wooden golf tees into the screw holes on the edge of the door. Snap off the top of the tees and insert the new screws

08-25-2011- Other Thoughts: House Door Lock is exactly like what you purchase at the big box stores. Easy to install, the hardest part of the Security Door Lock is getting it out of the package it comes in. recommand the Lever Handle Lock.

07-22-2011- Other Thoughts: These handles are excellent. Very durable and the finish on them is second to none. <br/>I liked these so much I did my whole home, 19 doors. They are pricy but worth every penny. <br/>You can find deals on them if you look around. Bought four here and many on another site. <br/>Very rich look to these handles. I also redid all of the hinges on the doors in the same <br/>finish and that really finished off my project.

07-07-2011- Other Thoughts: The picture doesn't show how pretty these REALLY are. Heavy construction and look SOOOOOO nice on our 6 panel oak and pine doors!! Easy to install. I've had MANY compliments and they work great for kids - no knob to try to grasp hold of. Would buy this brand and style again if I ever ended up moving.

06-24-2011- Other Thoughts: After changing out the faucets, towel bars, and ordering matchine vanity lights -- I was delighted to find this in matching Ashfield rustic bronze. The instructions would have been better if they were not written in 3 different languages, but that is par nowadays... I had some difficultly removing the inside cover, but after a couple minutes of finagling I got it. Once that was off the install only took about 10 minutes after I removed the old mechanism. Great product, easy install, what's not to like?
