Tips for Tackle Storage on a Small Boat

Having a small boat saves on storage space and fuel, but trying to store items like fishing gear, electronics and personal accessories can be tough. Space on a small boat is limited. Decide what you absolutely need for your outing. With some tips, you can focus on fishing instead of worrying about tackle storage
Converting a Cooler Into Tackle Storage
One way to overcome the lack of storage is to convert a drink cooler into a combination tackle box and bait carry. Take a medium-size drink cooler and divide it into two sections by placing a piece of wood or acrylic down the middle. Place the material horizontally or vertically. Just make sure you have an equal amount of space on both sides. One side will hold tackle supplies like hooks, weights and other fishing gear. The other side will hold live bait. Or, divide the live bait side into two sections and have one side for drinks. To seal the sections in place, glue the wood or acrylic in place and let dry before using
Installing Hooks on the Inside of the Boat
Another tip is to install hooks on both sides of your boat to hold your tackle gear. Small hooks are available at your local hardware or home improvement store. Place your fishing hooks, weights and other fishing gear in individual nylon bags and attach them to the hooks. Balance the supplies on both sides of the boat and don't fill the bags with too many supplies. Be careful -- you don't want the boat to tilt
Purchase the Right Tackle Storage Box
Instead of purchasing a large tackle box, buy a small utility box found at your local sports, hardware or home improvement store. These are inexpensive, easy to clean, and often clear so you can see and grab items quickly. Place the utility box in the center of your boat along with a cooler containing your live bait. This way, you will have the other two ends of the boat free for seating
