The next thing you'll notice is the initially disconcerting 2-second delay before the lamp turns on; I find it less annoying than 2-3 minutes it takes CFLs to reach full brightness, but you might not want to use these at the top of your stairs.

It's hanging in a down pendant and casts a well-dispersed beam on the walls and floor. It uses almost as much energy as the CFL we had in there but the full brightness immediately is the strong suit. Color is also right where I like it. Very similar to GU13 halogen bulbs in its clarity but ever so slightly cooler.

The lighting quality and quantity from these bulbs is a night and day difference than the CFLs I have installed in the other side of the room. The CFLs take minutes to warm up now, especially since they have aged a year or so. These LEDs don't require any warm up time. I have also tried them with a dimmer, and they do work well.

I love this LED recessed lighting bulb. It provides exceptionally bright light -- nicely and fully illuminates the kitchen island and the whirlpool tub in the bathroom AND is DIMMABLE and is INSTANT ON!! Yes, it's expensive, but you'll almost never have to replace it. It's so bright, I recommend it for downlighting and directional lighting against a wall -- don't use it where it will shine directly into someone's face unless you dim it down.

Just installed this LED bulb in a ceiling fixture over my desk area. Light came on instantaneously. These are more like a spot light. It lights up my entire desk area and is perfect because it's outside my daughters bedroom and does not spread into their room.
