How to Assemble a Manual Meat Grinder:
- Make sure the grinder parts are free of rust (see tips below for eliminating rust), clean and dry. Parts may vary, but generally, the grinder consists of a main body, which clamps to the surface of the table or counter, a handle with screw-type feeder, a metal plate and cutting blade and a nut or collar
- Place the handle with feeding screw into the main body of the grinder. The handle will need to turn freely once it is mounted, since rubbing will impede the grinder's cutting and extruding action as well as damage the work surface. You may need to use the rubber or wood wedges to secure the grinder to your work surface and protect the underside of your work surface
- Apply the cutting blade to the bolt protruding from the large, screw-like portion of the handle, then the extrusion plate. The smaller the holes in the extrusion plate, the finer the ground meat will be. Newer models with a collar have a shorter mounting bolt that holds the cutting blade and extrusion plate in place. In older models, the mounting bolt is longer and the plates and blades are held in place by a hex nut or wing nut; often there is only one cutting blade and no extrusion plate
- Mount the grinder onto a stable work surface once it has been assembled, using the wedges to secure it to the underside of a table or counter top 1 to 1 1/2 inch thick. The grinder body should not move when the handle is turned and the handle should turn completely and freely. Once tested and secured properly, grinding can begin
- Wash your grinder in warm water with a small amount of dish soap, dry thoroughly after use, and apply a light coating of cooking oil to keep rust from forming. Store in a cloth or paper bag in a dry area. Proper cleaning (see tips below) and storing of your grinder and all its parts will ensure many years of use
How to Use a Baby Food Mill Grinder:
- Pull the top half of the food mill all the way up to open a space in the bottom bowl for the ground baby food
- Fill the bottom half of the food mill three-fourths full with the food for processing
- Insert the cutting blade into the bottom of the grinder shaft with the sharp edge pointing up
- Slide the strainer down the shaft touching the cutter blade edges with the side printed "UP" pointing up
- Screw the handle onto the shaft with the nut at the top
- Push the shaft with the cutter and strainer down through the food, and twist the center handle post clockwise to lock the shaft
- Turn the handle clockwise while pushing down until the all food in the mill has passed through the strainer into the top half of the food mill
- Transfer the food to a serving dish
- Twist the handle post counterclockwise to unlock the shaft, and pull the shaft with the cutting blade and strainer from the food mill to wash all of the parts in the dishwasher

12-11-2010- Other Thoughts: I purchased this Food Grinder Set to strain fruits and vegetables for canning. I tested this product on muscadine grapes, and it took care of the peels and seeds all at the same time. I would totally recommend this product. Kitchenaid stuff rocks!

12-01-2010- Other Thoughts: Had this Food Grinder Set for a little over 2 months and it's been more than helpful!! Cut down processing time of tomatoes to almost nothing. Just clean, core, give a squeeze to get out the extra juice and maybe chunk so they'll fit into the chute. Done!! Processed over 5 bushels of tomatoes. I've used it for apples, too. I just sliced those and sent them through, seeds and all. Wonderful applesauce. Clean up is pretty easy. A baby bottle brush works great to clean out the inside of the strainer, and make sure you get inside the auger...lots of food likes to get stuck in there. Worth every penny!!

12-18-2010- Other Thoughts: Works great. I have only used it for tomatoes. Wash, cut in half or quarters and put through the machine. Removes skin and 98% of the seeds

12-13-2010- Other Thoughts: Bought this for my husband for his birthday. He loves to make sausage and he had been using the attachments for our KitchenAid. He is thrilled that this grinder works so much faster. He put 21 pounds of pork through it the day we got it. It is easy to assemble, clean and store.

12-04-2010- Other Thoughts: What can I say, Food Grinder Set just plain works. My mixer is at least 25 years old, and the connection point is still the same a new one. My wife makes a cranberry relish each year and I refused to use our antique grinder any more. I made a huge batch in about 20 minutes with no mess or fuss. Clean up is a snap. I'm only sorry I didn't buy this years ago. The unit is very easy to clean and reassemble.
