How to Clean a Fountain Pen NibAlthough, rarely used today, the fountain pen is an elegant and costly instrument used for writing. The fountain pen has a reservoir that houses the ink and the nib, which disperses the ink when writing. Overtime the ink may dry-up or thicken on the nib when not used regularly. This often results in a blocked nib that will cause difficulty in writing smoothly. Cleaning the fountain pen nib on a regularly basis will prevent this issue.
Instructions- Turn on your sink faucet. The water should be warm and at a steady stream
- Hold the nib under the stream of water. The water will remove and loosen any dried ink on the nib. Gently rub your fingers over the nib to help dislodge any ink. You may also use a gentle brush, such as a toothbrush, to help remove any obstruction
- Allow the pen to soak in a half of cup of water for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the pen and pour out the old water and refill the cup with fresh water. Continue to this step until the water does not show any ink.
- Dry the pen with a soft cloth and dispose of the water. Put a paper towel in the bottom of a clean cup and place the pen inside. The moisture should drain out of the pen
