How to Choose Bedspread?
- Choose your Bedspread by the tog rating. Bedspread all have specific tog ratings. This refers to the ability of the duvet to trap and hold warm air. Bedspread filled with natural fibres have significantly better heat holding abilities than Bedspread filled with synthetic fibres. For this reason they need less filling to reach the same tog rating, so you cannot necessarily judge a Bedspread by its weight. All you need to know it the Bedspread's tog rating, the higher tog rating the duvet has, the warmer it will be. For example a Bedspread with a 4.5 tog count is lightweight and will make a suitable summer Bedspread. A Bedspread with a tog rating between 9 and 10.5 togs is medium weight and suitable for spring and autumn. If you want a heavier Bedspread that is suitable for winter, then you need one with a tog rating of between 12 and 13.5 togs. You can also opt for a combination Bedspread. This consists of two separate Bedspreads, usually a summer and a spring, which can be attached together to make a warm winter Bedspread, or use separately the rest of the year round.
- Consider the range of filings for your Bedspread. Bedspreads that are filled with natural fillings like down feathers, and this makes them very soft. Because they are breathable they tend to hold warm better with out trapping cold pockets. They are also durable and tend to outlive Bedspreads filled with synthetic fibers. The benefit of synthetically filled Bedspreads is that they weigh less and they are also essential if you suffer from allergies. Usually a Bedspread filled with natural stuffing lasts around 25-30 years, whereas a synthetic one will only last around 10-12 years.
- Take your time choosing a Bedspread. Choosing the right Bedspread is almost as important as choosing the correct mattress. Bedspreads filled with down will hold their shape and plumpness longer that foam filled Bedspreads. They are also more comfortable to lie on because they conform to the shape of your head and neck. Thread count per inch or TPI is an important factor to be considered while buying bed Bedspreads. Bedspreads which have a lower thread count than 200 should not be used for regular daily use.
How to measure the Bedspread and Fabric Choice?
- Using a measuring tape or tape measure, write down the length (L), width (W) and depth (D) of the mattress. The length of fabric you'll need for a fitted Bedspread is the length + (depth x 2) + 16 inches. The width of fabric you'll need is the width + (depth x 2) + 16 inches.
- Take your calculations with you to the fabric store to find the right size material for your bedding project. Look for material that is sturdy, that has an even weave and that will hold up to repeated washings.
- Purchase matching thread and about 1 1/2 meters of thin elastic, for the bottom Bedspread.

10-04-2011- Other Thoughts: Brilliant Bedspread just what I wanted. Nice and light looks good and the colour is lovely. Liked this Print Bedspread so much I have also bought the Runner for a change of look to the bed. Really pleased with them both. Great value for money.

10-01-2011- Other Thoughts: Great quality Cotton Bedspread with good strong elasticated fitting. High thread count ought to provide good durability with smooth feel. Great quality for a really fair price, this Cotton Bedspread is probably unmatched on line and certainly not in the High Street.
