How to Replace a Slot in Nintendo DS 1?



When you enter a Nintendo DS game card into the unit it connects to a compartment or slot that reads the information on the card. This slot can become damaged over time. If you are interested in working on electronic devices, you can open up the DS and remove and replace the slot itself

• Turn off your DS and turn the unit over. Remove the screw holding the battery door in place and remove the battery door. Remove the battery and set it aside
• Remove all screws from the rear of the DS. There are rubber pads covering two screws on the bottom of the case, but these can be popped off with the tip of your screwdriver
• Use your fingers to pry off the back case of the DS. The motherboard will be visible in the top housing. On top of the motherboard is the metal game card slot
• Use your soldering iron to heat up and loosen the solder on the metal slot connector panels from their metal pads on the top of the circuit board
• Remove the slot and set it aside
• Fit a new slot in the old one's place and solder the panels to the pads on the top of the circuit board. Wait a few minutes for the solder to dry and reverse the steps for reassembly

• Wait for the game to load if you have the Nintendo DS Lite's Automatic Start-Up feature enabled. Otherwise, you will have to manually start the game
• Finished playing? Gently press on the exposed edge of the DS game card to release it from the Nintendo DS Lite
