How to Make a Calendar From a Paper Bag?
Purchasing nice and pretty books for writing or calendars can be costly, because stores often charge more for fancy and well-designed books and calendars. Creating a paper bag calendar from scratch is a fun and creative process. Not only are they easy to make, but they can be personalized in design and structure. While some prefer a book calendar, others like the flip calendars better. Both are possible when made with paper bags.
Instructions:
Book Calendar:- Place four large white lunch paper bags on a table, so the flap end is facing up. Place one bag on top of another, so the flap is on the opposite side. For example, if the bottom bag's flap is on the left-hand side, turn the top bag so its flap is on the right-hand side. Alternate each bag
- Line the bags up in the pile and fold them in the middle, so it mirrors a book
- Cut a piece of heavy duty card stock. This will function as the binding for the calendar book. The piece should be the same height as the book's height, at least 2 inches. Fold the card stock in half, so each half measures one inch. Punch holes along the fold, approximately 1/4 inch in, so it affects both sides of the fold. It is a personal preference as to how many holes are needed
- Wrap the binding around the bag folds. Use a pencil to make a mark in each hole. This will outline where the holes will need to be made in the paper bags. Use the hole punch to make holes, one bag at a time. When done, place the bags into the fold again
- Wrap the binding around the book once more, so all of the holes are aligned as much as possible. There may be some inconsistencies because of the folds and thick bags. Just aim for the best fit
- Use the pencil to push ribbon through each of the holes and tie a knot or a bow for each hole
- Decorate each page in the book with scrapbook paper or stickers. Write down important dates or meetings in the new calendar book
Flip Calendar:
- Flatten 13 large paper bags out on a table. One bag will be the cover, leaving 12 for each month
- Fold each bag approximately two-thirds of the way up, ensuring that the flap is on the inside of the overall fold
- Punch holes along the top of each bag that is not part of the fold. This is where the rings for the flip will be inserted. The number of holes is a personal choice
- Glue or tape the fold on each piece, so it becomes a solid piece of paper. Use tape to ensure the corners are not flipping upward
- Decorate each bag with colorful paper and calendar charts. Include the name of the month and the amount of weeks in a month. While some enjoy blocks for each day, others prefer lines. Do whatever suits the needs of the person who will be using the calendar. Place the 13 bags on top of each other so the holes align. Push a ring through each hole, connecting the 13 bags
