What is a motorcycle fairing?
A motorcycle fairing is a shell placed over the frame of some motorcycles, especially racing motorcycles and sport bikes, with the primary purpose to reduce air drag. The secondary functions are the protection of the rider from airborne hazards and wind-induced hypothermia and of the engine components in the case of an accident. There may be a front fairing, as well as a rear fairing component. A motorcycle windshield may be an integral part of the fairing. The major benefit of a fairing on sport touring and touring motorcycles is a reduction in fuel consumption. The reduction in aerodynamic drag allows for taller gearing, which in turn increases engine life.
How to Replace Motorcycle Fairings1
Unscrew the bolts from the inner fairing panels, the panels that surround the front wheel, using an Allen wrench. Pull the inner fairing panels away from the motorcycle.

Unscrew the mounting bolts that join the side and lower fairing panels, using an Allen wrench. Tilt the lower fairing slightly and pull it out from under the motorcycle.

Pull the plastic push rivets out from the bottom of the lower fairing, where the panels meet, to separate the lower fairing panels from each other.

Unscrew the mounting bolts that join the side fairing panels to the upper fairing, using an Allen wrench. Pull the side panels partially away from the motorcycle. Reach behind the side panels and unplug the fairing's turn signal wiring from the motorcycle's wiring harness. Remove the side panels.

Unscrew the nut from the turn signal's mounting post on the inside of the side fairing panels, using a combination wrench. Pull the turn signals out of the side fairing panels.

Unscrew the mirror post bolts from the upper fairing, using an Allen wrench. Pull the mirrors off of the fairing.

Unscrew the windshield bolts, using an Allen wrench. Pull the windshield up and out of the upper fairing.

Unscrew the fairing stay's mounting bolts, if any, using an Allen wrench. Pull the upper fairing off of the motorcycle.

Remove the seat from the motorcycle, using an Allen wrench to remove the bolts from the rear of the seat.

Unscrew the bolts that secure the tail fairing to the seat rails, using an Allen wrench. Pull the tail fairing to the rear of the motorcycle, and then lift it off of the frame.

Unscrew the front fender's bolts, using an Allen wrench.

Install new fairing panels, following the reverse method of the removal steps.
