How to Unclog a Soap Dispenser Pump:

Rather than purchasing a new soap dispenser when the soap runs out, refilling your existing bottle makes sense both economically and environmentally. Built-up soap residue can clog soap dispensers over time. Luckily, hot water dissolves most clogs. Bradley, a manufacturer of plumbing fixtures and washroom accessories, suggests cleaning your dispenser monthly to remove accumulations and keep it working smoothly
- Unscrew the top of the soap dispenser. Pour out any soap. Rinse out soap residue with hot water. Fill the bottle up halfway with hot water
- Replace the top. Shake the dispenser. Press down on the pump to move the hot water through the clogged areas. Continue to press the pump until the spout functions without resistance
- Take the dispenser apart if it remains clogged. Soak the parts in a tub of hot water to dissolve soap residue. Use a soft-bristle brush to remove dried soap deposits
- Reassemble the clean soap dispenser. Test it by filling it with water. Pour out the water. Refill the dispenser with soap, using a funnel if necessary
How to Refill Soap Dispensers:
Commercial soap dispensers function by pressing a lever. This lever pushes on a seal which opens and allows some of the liquid soap to flow out onto the hands. The soap is contained in a pliable plastic bag which has a rubber tube at one end with a plastic nozzle. Changing the soap in a commercial dispenser can seem confusing if you've never done it, but once you've learned the tricks you can finish the job in about two minutes
- Look underneath the soap dispenser behind the push bar and soap nozzle. You will see a small lever or bar near the wall on the bottom of the dispenser. Push this lever while gently pulling the top of the dispenser toward you. The top should swing away from the wall and hang down
- Look inside the dispenser. You will see an empty plastic bag with a rubber tube sticking out the bottom. The end of the rubber tube has a plastic nozzle that has been inserted into a slot in the plastic frame. Take note of how this nozzle has been inserted
- Remove the empty soap bag by sliding the nozzle out of the slot and then picking up the bag. Throw away this empty bag. Set the new soap bag on the platform where you just removed the empty one
- Slide the plastic nozzle into the slot where the old one was, making sure that you press the nozzle all the way back to secure it. Make sure the bag is seated evenly on the platform with no edges sticking out the sides, and close the front of the dispenser by swinging it back in place and pressing it firmly
- Press on the soap dispenser once to make sure it is working correctly. If not, open it again and reseat the plastic nozzle. If it works correctly, use damp paper towels to clean the outside of the dispenser, removing any stray soap spills
How to Clean a Soap Dispenser Pump:
- Unscrew the pump dispenser from the soap bottle. Set aside the soap bottle
- Rinse the outside of the pump dispenser under warm running water to remove as much soap residue and coagulated soap from the outside of the dispenser as possible
- Fill a small bowl or jar with very hot water
- Place the tube extending down from the pump dispenser into the hot water. Pump the dispenser to pull the hot water up through the tube and through the dispenser
- Continue to flush hot water through the pump dispenser until the hot water flows freely from the spout of the dispenser without coagulated soap blocking the flow
- Discard any remaining water and place the pump dispenser back onto the soap bottle
- Prime the pump dispenser by pumping it until soap dispenses when you press down on the dispenser

09-08-2011- Pros: Batteries last many months, lights up when dispensing, adjustable dispensing time, will extend over the sink to prevent counter mess
- Cons: Have to be careful replacing batteries to avoid mess
- Other Thoughts: I use this dispenser for soap and another one for antibacterial gel. I like this one better.

11-15-2011- Other Thoughts: We purchased this dispenser after we had tried a cheaper one we bought at Walmart that didn't work so well. This one has a dial with four settings so that soaps of different thicknesses can be used in it. It works great.

10-31-2011- Other Thoughts: I tried those "other" automatic dispensers, but you have to buy their soap refills which I didn't care for and they were a little expensive. With this you can use whatever kind of soap you want and it works great.
