How to Attach a Camera to a Car:

Attaching a camera to a car is very easy to do with the right equipment. Professional car camera mounts can be purchased for as low as 50 dollars to as high as several thousand dollars depending on the functionality and quality. A homemade camera mount is not advisable as the hours put in and materials will likely equal to more than the cost of buying a similar professional version. In addition the quality of a homemade camera, mount might be lower and result in a broken camera.- Purchase a car camera mount. High quality camera mounts can be purchased inexpensively at a website called Film Tools. Manfrodo brand mounts can be purchased for less than $100.
- Attach the camera to the camera mount. Locate the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera (the place where the tripod screws into). Screw the camera mount into the camera's tripod socket. Ensure that it is screwed in tightly.
- Attach the mount to the car. Most camera mounts use a suction cup to attach to the car's body or window. Locate a flat surface on the car to attach the camera mount to. Push down on the suction cup of the mount on the car body. Most mounts also have a side pump located next to the suction cup to pump out any excess air ensuring a tight seal. Pump out any excess air.
- Adjust the camera mount so that the camera is pointing in the direction of the desired shot. Tight any screws to lock the position of the mount. Press record and start driving to test the mount. Most professional mounts are secure at speeds over 150 miles per hour with a standard sized video camera. Check the instruction manual for additional details on how to operate.
- To remove the mount simply peels the suction cup off at one of the sides.
How to Install a Rear-View Camera in Your Car:

Rear-view cameras are especially useful in tight parking lots, dark areas or in places where children might be running around. You can install as many of these cameras as you want, though one or two is usually enough.
Instructions- Disconnect the battery cables from the battery. Check the vehicle's repair manual to find out what size wrench to use. Leave the disconnected cables a safe distance from the battery posts.
- Decide where you want to install the rear-view camera. Most people put them in the plastic bumper so they don't have to drill into the car's sheet metal.
- Drill a hole for the camera. Check the installation instructions to see what size drill bit to use. Don't make the hole too large or the camera will fall out.
- Place the camera in the hole using the rubber grommet supplied with the camera. Make sure the camera and grommet are tight.
- Attach the camera's power wire to the backup-light power wire on your car. You'll have to splice the wires together. Use wire cutters to cut the wires, leaving enough excess wire to reconnect. Strip the ends of the wire to expose the bare wire using wire strippers. Splice the wires together using a two-into-one connector. This will give the rear-view camera power when you put the car in reverse.
- Route the camera's output wire to the rear-view monitor and connect the wire to the monitor's input. For installation of the monitor, see the monitor's installation instructions.
- Reconnect the battery, start the car and put the car in reverse. The rear-view monitor should turn on and give you a view of what's behind you.
Tips & Warnings
- Don't rely solely on the rear-view camera when backing up. Use it as a supplementary aid.
- You must have the rear-view monitor set up and installed correctly to receive the video signal from the rear-view camera.
- Don't install the camera (or any electrical device) with the battery connected, or you'll risk a severe electric shock.

09-02-2011- Other Thoughts: The Car Rear View Camera is so small I thought it was not included when I opened the box till I found it. Video quality is pretty descent, I recommend it to anyone who does not want to spend a fortune to have a good quality everyday camera.

09-06-2011- Other Thoughts: I used the Car Rear View Camera a few times while walking around town. People thought is looked like a bluetooth. It worked good in low light. I want to use it to make a short film. When I used it for a webcam the sound did not work.
