How to Mount a GPS Unit?

Mounting a Global Positioning (GPS) unit in your vehicle enables you to better get directions while driving. GPS units can be mounted on your windshield with suction cups, on your dash board with sandbags and even on your air conditioning vents with special clips. Included in many GPS purchases is a windshield mount, although it is an easy process to change to a different type of mount.

Windshield Mount:

• Select the best place on your windshield for your GPS. Pick a location that will not cause interference with your view of the road. Clean the spot with window cleaner and dry it well.
• Press the suction cup located on the back of the mount onto the glass of your windshield. The suction cup should stick without moving.
• Click the GPS unit into the holder following the directions for your unit. Most windshield mounts have a plastic holder that the unit will click into with slight pressure. Adjust the holder using the swivel feature so you are able to read the screen while seeing the road.

Dashboard Mount:

• Place the bean bag or friction mount in a location on the dashboard that will not interfere with your view of the road. There is a grip lining on the bottom of most dashboard models to keep them from sliding.
• Attach the GPS unit to the plastic mount stem following the directions for your model of GPS. This arm will attach your GPS unit to the bean bag or friction mount on the dashboard.
• Slip the plastic mount into the center plastic holder of the bean bag or friction mount. Once the mount is in the correct position for you to view, slide the lock lever into the "locked" position. This will keep the mount securely in place.

Vent Mounting:

• Attach vent mounting clips to the back of the GPS pedestal holding frame by sliding the rounded pins into the slots.
• Pinch the vent mounting clips, opening the teeth, and insert into the vent slots on your dashboard. Mounting clips will be attached to the vent slot. The support leg located on the bottom will rest on the dashboard for support.
• Attach The GPS unit to its cradle if the unit came with one. Attach the cradle (on some units) or the GPS to the adapter that fits your unit. Each adapter is numbered and a list is included to match your unit to the correct adapter. Attach the GPS with the adapter plate by matching the slots of the adapter plate to the tabs on the pedestal mount.
