I'm highly recommending this product. It's so well constructed... very solid feeling quality leather that protects my phone especially no dirt in the charge slot. The on/off switch is a very nice feature - when turned on it charges the iphone and when off it holds the charge until you need it. It adds weight to the iphone, but not much. The case is not bulky. I found the directions to be too limited, but I can figure things out - the case is pretty intuitive.

While I have just gotten this, it seems great. The size is such that it can be left on and the iphone kept in a pocket. When charging, it first charges the iphone, then itself. There is an easy to use on/off switch. If in the off position, it just charges itself. In the on position, it passes charge and USB access to the iphone.

I actually have another bigger battery pack that has a longer up time but I ordered this one for my son as we were going to Walt Disney World for two weeks and you rarely have time to stop and charge the phone while doing parks all day. However, mine takes a special cord to charge and it got misplaced during the trip down so we ended up relying on this case pack to keep our phones charged. We kept all 3 phones up and reasonably charged.

This works fine. If this is NOT the OEM battery, someone's done a great job making it look like one AND have the same good performance. Additionally, the seller is quite good. When I ordered a spare battery for my husband's phone, I was sent one which was defective. I contacted them immediately and in a little more than a week I had a new battery at no charge.

Perfect for all cell phones with an iphone type of connection.Well made and the magnetic flap is perfect to protect the phone and ensure you do not switch the phone on or off by accident.

Cons:

I have only used this for 24 hours and the only negative comment I have is that, as at now, I find it difficult to remove the phone - a nice tight fit.

The device works as represented and I have recommended it to others. The manual is sparse and it had no help for my attempt to plug the battery in over the Iphone external hard case. You must remove the bottom part of the iphone hard case to engage the connector with its plastic bridge. The connected iphone and battery is a flimsy pair and must be handled with care.

It was so nice being able to use my iphone 3G while traveling without worrying about the battery. Just attach it during the day so it's used instead of the iphone battery. It's not bulky. I never put on the top part. <br/> <br/>Seems to charge fast, and I like the convenient battery indicator. <br/> <br/>It does seem to interfere with phone reception / signal strength, but maybe only when the reception is already weak.

Why use battery packs?
Cells are like eggs. They come in fixed voltages and capacities. You can't get half an egg, and you can't get half a cell, at least in voltage. A NiCad or NiMH cells are 1.2 volts nominal, lead acid is 2.0 volts nominal and the various lithium technologies are about 3.6 volts per cell. If you need more voltage you have to add them in series, if you need less voltage you need some kind of voltage regulator or DC/DC converter.

If you need more current you may need to put cells in parallel. If you need more capacity you may also put cells in parallel.

Many times the physical configuration makes it more attractive to use many small cells rather than a few large cells.

Is there a way to charge my iPhone while it is turned off?
You may have tried to charge your iPhone while it was powered off only to have it turn itself on as soon as you plug it in to the USB cable or place it on the dock. As a result, it may have seemed that the iPhone insists on being turned on in order to charge.

As it turns out, this is not the case. Simply plug your iPhone in to charge while turned on (or off for that matter) and once it begins charging, power it down. If you power down after charging begins, the iPhone will remain turned off while still charging.

What is the typical material used to separate the anode and cathode in Li-ion batteries?
The anode and cathode have a liquid electrolyte between them that conducts the Li-ion. There is a polymer separator that electrically isolates the anode and cathode; it is a thin membrane of porous polypropylene or polyethylene film.
