How to Ride In-line Skates:

• The first step for learning how to ride in-line skates is finding shoes that fit just right. The shoes shouldn't be too loose or too tight. They have to be comfortable for riding around everywhere
• The next step is finding the perfect place for practicing. You have to start off by finding a place that doesn't have any bumps, rocks, sticks or anything on the floor. When you start riding, the simplest thing can make you fall down, so make sure you find a smooth surface like an empty parking lot or a park
• Now you should start off by riding on one regular shoe and one roller blade. Doing this will help you gain balance on one foot. After you have practiced many times and you can balance one foot on the roller blade and one foot on your regular shoe you are ready for the next step
• The next step is to wear both roller blades and stay next to a wall so that you can hold yourself up. The wall will help keep you balanced and in case you were about to fall you could hold on
• You can start off going really slowly and holding the brake every time you feel like you might fall. Even if you fall, it's okay, just make sure you have protections. A few falls are normal and they will encourage you to keep going so you can reach your goal
• After that you have to practice going further, but slower. It's very important that you go slowly because you might not be able to control the break yet. So DO NOT go fast until you have practiced with the brake many times. If you go fast and you can't control the brake, you will crash. It will not be a fall; it will be a crash, which will hurt you very badly. So practice stopping on a slower pace and then gradually increase your pace
• Once you mastered these steps, you are ready to go. However, stay away from busy streets and cars. I say this because if you ever lose control and can't break on time, you will jump right into the street and the result will be horrible. So until you have mastered everything, stay away from busy places

How to Buy In-Line Skates:

• Understand that in-line skates are made of two parts, the liner and the shell. While wearing thin socks, try on just the liner in a size that is similiar to your shoe size. Make sure there is no room between your toes and the toe of the liner
• Put your foot with the liner on in the skate. The fit should be supportive and keep your ankle from moving, but not so tight that your foot can't breathe. Check to be sure the shell has air holes to allow your feet to breathe
• Make sure the frame, which holds wheels in place, is sturdy enough to support your weight. If you can twist the frame more than a fraction of an inch, it's too weak
• Purchase skates with softer wheels if you are a beginner; softer wheels help you slow down and remain stable. Softer wheels are typically known as 72 durometer wheels; 78 durometers is the most common choice; 82 is good for varied terrains. Racers or experienced skaters use harder wheels (85 durometers)
• Check to be sure at least one of your skates has a brake: on the right skate for right-handers, on the left skate for left-handers
• Skate around the store to make sure the skates are comfortable. Beginners should try to stay on the carpet or near a sturdy railing to avoid injury and accidents
• Have an experienced salesperson check the fit to ensure the skates will suit your needs

How to Change In-Line Skate Wheels:

• Remove the bolt running through the center of each old wheel. Using an adjustable wrench, grasp the nut on the end of the bolt. Turn the other end of the bolt with an Allen (hex) wrench (see A)
• Pull the bolt free and remove the wheel. Take care not to lose any plastic spacers that may be beside each wheel
• Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other wheels
• Inspect your new wheels for wheel bearings (silver disks in the center of each wheel). If these are included, the new wheels are ready to be installed

• If your new wheels do not include wheel bearings, transfer your existing wheel bearings to the new wheels. There are two bearings in each wheel, one on each side (see B). Remove the bearings by popping them free with the end of an Allen (hex) wrench. Again, take care not to lose any spacers that may be held between the bearings
• Install the bearings into the new wheels by pushing them into place with your fingers. Be sure to include any spacers
• Slide the wheels into place on the skate. Insert a wheel bolt through each wheel. Place a nut on each bolt and tighten with the adjustable wrench and Allen (hex) wrench. Make sure that the wheel bolts are securely tightened but the wheels spin freely. If a wheel does not spin freely, loosen the wheel bolt very slightly. If the wheel bolt is loose and the wheel still fails to spin freely, remove the wheel and check for proper installation of the bearings
