Directions for Changing an LCD Light in a Laptop Computer:

• Remove the LCD panel from the laptop by first removing screws along the frame of the LCD panel to dislodge it from the laptop's plastic casing. You may have to pry open small rubber pads that are placed over the screws. Place a small flat implement between the LCD screen and the frame, and work your way all around the border of the frame, loosing the screen from the edge as you go
• Unplug the video cable connecting the display assembly to the laptop, and the power cable connecting the LCD panel to the inverter. Carefully slide out the LCD screen from the laptop
• Locate and remove sticky tapes and foil from the back of the LCD panel. Gently peel off the tapes, detaching cables from the sticky surface. Stick them on a clean, dry place temporarily---you will need them when you reassemble the unit
• Carefully take apart the green circuit board by ungluing it from the plastic on the back of the LCD screen. Do not apply too much force or you may damage the component. Remove the metal frame holding the LCD panel to a base layer of thin plastic, by releasing latches all around the border of the frame. Do not touch the exposed LCD panel because it gets contaminated very easily. Keep the metal frame, the LCD panel and the circuit board to a side
• Remove transparent layers from the plastic base and keep them aside. Now you can access the CCFL back-light lamp by removing a metal cover around it. Free cables from the back-light by releasing them from hooks
• Remove the back-light lamp and reflector from the plastic base and separate them. Take apart the reflector first by ungluing it from the screen base. Undo the mounting mechanism and separate the CCFT tube. With the lamp isolated, take off the rubber padding from the tube leads on either end
• Unsolder cables from both ends of the tube. At this stage, you have removed the old back-light source and the cables can be re-soldered to a new light. Bring the leads of the new CCFT close to the cables and solder them firmly to either end of the tube
• Reassemble the LCD panel and mount it back on the laptop. Place the newly installed light with the reflector on the plastic base, reattach the cables and join the LCD screen to the base before reassembling the display unit to the laptop
