How to Choose a Good iPod Case:
- Vinyl and leather cases are popular these days. They range from monochromatic to multicolor patterns. They provide some drop protection. Scratch protection is not very good unless they have a clear window and lining to protect the screen. These cases go with fashion statement
- Silicon cases come in a variety of sizes, textures, shapes and colors. The best ones are tough. The low quality ones tear easily and often do not fit well the iPod like their better siblings. It is worth paying more for quality. However, they do not offer much shock protection from that head-bump into the brick wall
- Hard cases are usually made of aluminum, titanium or plastic. They range from low to good than to superior quality. The aluminum and titanium cases offer better protection than the plastic. Nevertheless, some plastic cases are exceptionally strong and shock resistant. The key to good protection is how the case fastens. The aluminum case is useless if the latch won't lock properly
- One last thing: no matter what kind of case you choose, make sure access to the headphone jack, docking port, lock button, etc. is unblocked without removing the iPod from the case
How to Customize iPod Cases:
Bling Your iPod Case:- Sketch a design out you would like to use on your iPod case. Lay the crystals or rhinestones loosely on the design to get a rough estimate of how many you will need and whether the design appeals to you
- Clean your iPod case with a little rubbing alcohol on a cloth. Let dry
- Apply a small amount of glue to your iPod case with the artist brush. Apply the glue only to areas where you know you can apply crystals or rhinestones before the glue dries. Start at one corner and work across for best results. Place your brush in water in between glue applications
- With a jeweler's wax stick or dop stick, which are small sticks with a tiny bit of wax on the end, or with tweezers, pick up your rhinestone or crystal and place in the glue that you have applied to your iPod case. If you are using a dop stick, push the jewel lightly into the glue and then gently lift up. The jewel should remain in the glue
- Continue to place the jewels and applying glue until your iPod case is covered in the pattern you desire
- Allow the iPod case to dry for 24 hours before using
Skin It:
- Create a skin, which is an adhesive covering, for your iPod case. Use a website like Skinit.com to create a customized skin for your case. You can choose to custom make a skin or order one of the site's designs. Once your skin comes in the mail, just clean your iPod case and apply the adhesive-backed covering to your case
- Make your own skin on your computer. Use a template, such as one from Mirkwood Designs (see Resources), or create your own template to make a skin
- Trace the template onto a full-sheet label, then use an X-acto knife to cut the pattern out along the solid lines
- Embellish the cut-out template with your artistic ideas
- Remove the backing from the label. Place the label on your iPod cover so that the opening of your label is correctly placed over the iPod's wheel. Take care to smooth out any bubbles or creases
