Jewelry Storage Ideas
You'll be more likely to wear the jewelry you own if you store it properly. Not only can you avoid tangled and knotted chains, but you'll lengthen the life of your jewelry. Fine jewelry, such as diamonds and pearls, requires more careful storage solutions than costume jewelry, but there is almost no limit to the various ideas one can think of for storing jewelry.
Jewelry Box- Fine jewelry should always be stored in a felt-lined jewelry box that has enough room to comfortably store your collection. Fine jewelry shouldn't be crowded, or pieces may scratch each other. Ideally, each piece of fine jewelry should be stored in its own protective bag or case, especially very valuable pieces that are kept in a safe deposit box.
Cork or Wire Holder
- If you have a lot of necklaces, a cork holder works especially well. Make one by purchasing an 8x10 inch photograph frame; remove the glass and backing. With a utility knife, cut a piece of cork (available in craft stores) so that it fits inside the frame. Cover the cork with decorative paper, hot glued in place, then place inside the frame. Keep necklaces in place with pushpins. For a larger cork holder, cut the cork to any size you like and wrap entirely with decorative paper; then secure to the wall with screws
- You can use the same basic concept to create a wire earring hanger. Just cut some fine wire mesh (available at craft stores) to the size of a large picture frame, and secure it in place with staples
In a Drawer
- If you have an extra drawer in a vanity table or dresser, devote it to a collection of small cups and saucers and divide your jewelry among them. For example, store a pair of silver earrings with a matching ring and necklace in one cup, your faux pearl necklace in a saucer, and so on
Wall Hooks
- Purchase decorative wall hooks at a craft or hardware store and screw them into a wall. Hang necklaces, bracelets, and even rings from the hooks. This is an especially good solution when horizontal space is at a premium. A coat rack also works well
Ice Trays and Muffin Tins
- Small pieces of jewelry, like rings and earrings, store beautifully inside ice cube trays or muffin tins. Keep the tray or tin on your dresser or vanity, or place it inside a drawer. For ice cube trays, store only one pair of earrings or at most two rings in each section; with muffin tins, you may be able to store more in each cup, but remember to keep the containers as clutter free as possible
Decorative Storage
- There are also many ways to display jewelry that are less practical, but fun, easy and chic. For example, place a piece of floral foam (available in craft stores) inside a vase and insert a branch into it. Driftwood works well, but any sturdy branch that will fit into the vase and has smaller branches or bumps to hang things from will do. Place small stones on top of the exposed floral foam, then hang hook earrings from the lip of the vase, and bracelets and necklaces from the branch
- Other ideas include hanging necklaces from a small ceramic bust or statue, or using a belt hanger to hang necklaces and bracelets

10-06-2011- Other Thoughts: I received my jewelry case today and I really like it. I immediately moved my stuff into the case, and it fit everything I needed to in it. My bulkier stuff is hanging elsewhere, but that's okay. The Portable Jewelry Case is really cute -I might give it to my daughter! The jewelry box came quickly and in new condition as advertised. All good.

10-17-2011- Other Thoughts: This is the best jewelry storage box I have ever seen. I bought it for my mother in the nursing home. The drawers are just perfect for her butterfly jewelry and she uses the top part for her makeup.
