How to Sew a Jewelry Case:
- Lay the two fabric rectangles right sides together. Sew together the two long sides and one short side using 1/2-inch seams. Turn right side out. Press.
- Turn under the raw edges on the remaining short side 1/2 inch. Press. Topstitch 1/4 inch from the folded-under edge to hem closed. Topstitch across the opposite short side of the rectangle for decorative purposes.
- Fold up each short edge of the case 3 inches to create pockets. Press. You now have an 8-by-10-inch rectangle with long, narrow pockets on each side. Topstitch across the 10-inch sides, sewing through to hold the pockets in place.
- Sew a 3-inch line down the center of each pocket to create two 4-by-3-inch individual pockets on each side of the case for small jewelry items.
- Cut one 18-inch length of ribbon. Fold it in half and sew the center fold to the 8-inch edge of the jewelry case at the base of one of the 3-inch stitching lines you made to separate the pockets. This ribbon will be used to tie the case closed when it is rolled up.
- Make a dot at the center of one of the 10-inch sides inside the case, 1/2 inch from the edge with the fabric marking pencil. Place a second and third dot 1 inch away from both sides of the center dot. Cut three 12-inch ribbons. Fold each ribbon in half. Sew the center of each ribbon to the dots. These ribbons will be used to secure necklaces
