How to Care for Bamboo Knitting Needles:
- Store bamboo knitting needles in a cloth pouch. Many craft stores sell pouches with thin pockets to hold many different size needles together
- Lay the pouch on a flat surface so the needles remain flat while stored. Do not place any heavy objects on the pouch
- Use tip protectors on the ends of the bamboo needles when you are carrying them in a project bag during use so they don't rub on the inside of the bag
- Wipe the surface of the bamboo needles with a soft, damp (not soaking wet) cloth to remove any oils or residues from your hands if the needles start to feel sticky
- Dry the bamboo needles immediately after wiping. Use a soft towel to buff the surface. Never let water remain on your needles or it could damage the wood
- Sand the tips of the bamboo needles with super fine sandpaper if you find over time the tips wear and start to snag or split your yarn
How to Choose Bamboo Knitting Needles:
- Make sure all the points are milled the same and have the same thickness and point. If you look at cheap bamboo needles that you might find on some auction sites like eBay, you'll see that the points are not always exactly the same, and this could throw off your knitting gage, and even eventually wear down or break off the point
- Know that needles should be imprinted with the size, so you'll never have to guess the size of your needles after you take them out of the package
- Be aware that the needlepoint should be somewhat tapered, so it won't split your yarns when you knit
- Consider that a pair of needles should be the same thickness throughout the length of the needle. If they are mismatched, they could really throw off the gauge and ultimate size of your finished garment
- Know that your needles should also be created out of high-quality bamboo that comes from cold climates, because this bamboo is much more resistant to bending
How to Stop Your Knitting From Sliding Off the Needles:

Preventing Slippage While Knitting:- Choose your knitting needle material. Wood and bamboo needles tend to have rougher surfaces than metal, acrylic or glass needles. The rougher surface creates friction between the needle and the yarn, which will help prevent your stitches from sliding off
- Match yarn fiber to needle type. Fibers such as silk and bamboo tend to be more slippery than wool and cotton. If you have problems keeping your knitting on the needles, consider matching silk yarn to bamboo needles and rougher wool yarns to metal or glass
- Support your knitting. Attempting to knit a large garment without any support underneath it can cause stitches to slide off your needles, as well as causing wrist and arm strain. Place the garment in your lap or support it with something else, such as a table
Preventing Slippage in Transit:
- Use needle coils or coil wraps. These are small stretchy coils that wrap around the shafts of your needles which prevent stitches from sliding off. Usually the coils come in sizes that match your needle gauge
- Use point protectors. Knitting needle point protectors fit on the tips of your needles and are generally used for preventing needle breakage, however they can also be effective at keeping stitches in place
- Use a needle holder. Double pointed needle holders help sock and lace knitters keep stitches in place. These are generally small cylinders that hold needles and have a slot on one side for allowing knitted fabric to hang free
- Consider using circular needles. When packed away, turn circular needles in on themselves and secure through the knitted fabric. This can prevent your knitting from coming loose

12-06-2010- Other Thoughts: This set was recommended to me as a good value. I agree that the price is excellent, but I'm getting increasingly (ha, no pun intended!) disappointed with the needles.

11-05-2010- Other Thoughts: These knitting needles are much nicer for me than plastic or metal needles, and they're much quieter. They're longer than other needles I have, which makes it easier to knit larger pieces and to keep stitches on when I set the work down.

01-05-2011- Other Thoughts: They are a little rougher than the the higher-priced, store-bought needles but you can rub the needles with waxed paper to make them slick.
