How to Care for a Lava Lamp:

• Set the lava lamp on a flat, non-glass surface away from heating or cooling vents and direct sunlight. Maintain the room's temperature between 70 and 74 degrees F
• Allow the lava lamp five hours to warm up the first time you turn it on. Do not operate the lamp for more than 10 hours at a time
• Replace the bulb when necessary with the type recommended by the manufacturer for your particular model

  The lava lamp was perfected by an inventor named Craven Walker of Dorset, England. He had seen a similar lamp in an English pub shortly after World War II and spent over a decade developing his own version of the lamp

  The basic lava lamp consists of three parts: the base, the cap, and the illuminated cone containing the waxy substance and the colored fluid
• Function
  Most lava lamps operate with a 40-watt light bulb that is positioned within the base. When turned on, the heat from the bulb will soften the waxy "lava" substance and initiate the suspension of the wax in the colored fluid
