How to Iron Flannel
Flannel material provides warmth and comfort in clothes or bed sheets. The hearty fabric washes easily in the washer and dries in a dryer or on a clothesline. Ironing flannel means using a steam iron or applying a water mist to the fabric before ironing. The steam helps press the material while adding a film of protection from the iron's heat. Press flannel garments or sheets correctly to keep from damaging the fabric
- Things You'll Need: Distilled water, Iron, Spray bottle
Instructions
- Pour distilled water into a steam iron
- If you do not have a steam iron, pour the water into a spray bottle
- Turn on the iron to the wool setting
- Allow the iron two to three minutes to heat
- Lay the flannel upside down and stretch the material over the ironing board
- Mist the fabric lightly with water if you do not have a steam iron
- Press the flannel material with the iron
- Use medium pressure as you iron out wrinkles. Move the flannel fabric to the next area to iron, smoothing out the material and misting before pressing. Continue the same procedure over the interior of the garment
- Turn the flannel fabric over and repeat the pressing method on the garment exterior
- Place a white cotton cloth over the outside of wool flannel fabric before pressing to protect the material
- Shake the flannel garment after removing from the ironing board and hang on a clothes hanger or fold and lay in a drawer
