What is fluorescence?
- The production of light from heat, or incandescence, is familiar to everyone. But other processes can also yield light - without ever using heat. The term photoluminescence describes a process that produces light using light energy. Two forms of photoluminescence, fluorescence and phosphorescence, are defined by the length of time the emitted light continues to glow. Fluorescence refers to the immediate release of light, where light is emitted within a fraction of a second after excitation. Phosphorescence refers to the release of light that lasts longer - seconds or even hours after the excitation has stopped. Phosphorescence is a longer-lasting process than fluorescence because of the structure of the molecules at the quantum level. The energy transitions from excited, higher energy states to stable ground states are "forbidden" by quantum rules. In real terms, they do in fact occur, but at such low probabilities that these energy transitions last a very long time.

07-26-2011- Pros: Great price and a good variety of colours suited for the whole family. Suited to whiteboards and great for kids projects when highlighting headings.
- Other Thoughts: My boys both liked the blue highlight markers. I liked the florescent purple.

04-14-2011- Other Thoughts: My wife is a GM in a restaurant and she has used these Fluorescent Markers pens in the past. They are easy to use and erase with no problem. Also dd is the cheapest place I could find them.

02-10-2011- Other Thoughts: These Fluorescent Markers work really well on my black dry erase board. The chalk stays on without smearing, but wipes off easily with a paper towel. The colors are great and can be blended nicely before they dry. I bought them for a practical purpose, but I think I spend as much time just doodling! I highly recommend them.

05-12-2011- Other Thoughts: Colors are -so- much brighter & more saturated than dry erase. Wet erase is more than twice the work: wetting down a rag, wiping the board with it, following up with a dry rag, (possibly two rags, depending on how wet you made the board), but the difference more than offsets this "hardship".
