LED Drop-in Module Effects:

LED's Advantages:- Efficiency: LEDs produce more light per watt than incandescent bulbs
- Color: LEDs can emit light of an intended color without the use of color filters that traditional lighting methods require. This is more efficient and can lower initial costs
- Size: LEDs can be very small and are easily populated onto printed circuit boards
- On/Off Time: LEDs light up very quickly. A typical red indicator LED will achieve full brightness in microseconds. LEDs used in communications devices can have even faster response times
- Cycling: LEDs are ideal for use in applications that are subject to frequent on-off cycling, unlike fluorescent lamps that burn out more quickly when cycled frequently, or HID lamps that require a long time before restarting
- Dimming: LEDs can very easily be dimmed either by Pulse-width modulation or lowering the forward current
- Cool Light: In contrast to most light sources, LEDs radiate very little heat in the form of IR that can cause damage to sensitive objects or fabrics. Wasted energy is dispersed as heat through the base of the LED
- Slow Failure: LEDs mostly fail by dimming over time, rather than the abrupt burn-out of incandescent bulbs
- Lifetime: LEDs can have a relatively long useful life. One report estimates 35,000 to 50,000 hours of useful life, though time to complete failure may be longer. Fluorescent tubes typically are rated at about 10,000 to 15,000 hours, depending partly on the conditions of use, and incandescent light bulbs at 1,000-2,000 hours
- Shock Resistance: LEDs, being solid state components, are difficult to damage with external shock, unlike fluorescent and incandescent bulbs which are fragile
- Focus: The solid package of the LED can be designed to focus its light. Incandescent and fluorescent sources often require an external reflector to collect light and direct it in a usable manner
- Toxicity: LEDs do not contain mercury, unlike fluorescent lamps

11-15-2010- Other Thoughts: The light produced is a lot whiter and brighter than the standard bulb and battery life seems to have increased a good bit. I'm currently running on a pair of 123's that are about 50% depleted and the LED is still brighter than the original halogen. I'd love to see what it could do on full 123's.

12-25-2010- Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend this LED upgrade if you use your CREE for camping and are tired or burning through a set of batteries a campout. It also adds the extra durability of LED so you don't have to worry about dropping the torch and losing your bulb.

11-02-2011- Pros: Very bright light. It has 5 modes also. High, Med, Low, strobe, SOS. Once you have it installed. Just double click and it will change to the next mode.
- Cons: Need some basic modification skills. The center spring is too short. Just need to extend it and make sure its making contact with the proper connection. Just need some electrical tape to wrap it around the center spring so that it doesn't touch the walls of where the original bulb goes. Then make sure the outer spring makes contact with the outermost shell. I used foil. Also note anything higher that 3.7v seems to overload this LED. Can not handle 8.4v as indicated in the description. Mine would flash and stop working.
- Other Thoughts: Other items you need with this: Glass lens and rechargeable lithium batteries.

12-30-2010- Other Thoughts: I purchased this replacement bulb and use the flashlight as a back up. With new batterys in the flashlight, I noticed a visible increase in the brightness as well as the life of the batteries. The beam is focused to a workable spot light. I recommend this to anyone with a Cree XP-G R5 5-Mode flashlight.
