How to Hang a Canopy for a Bed:
Change the look of your bedroom to a romantic oasis by adding a fabric, bed canopy. Creating a canopy for your bed can be expensive if you hire someone to construct it, but many homeowners can create their own attractive results with just a few basic skills. There is no sewing involved and all necessary supplies and hardware are available in many places. With a few basic tools and a little work, you will be lounging in a dramatically canopied bed by nightfall
Instructions:- Determine the height for your canopy and make a pencil mark at that location, on the wall behind your bed
- Determine the locations for the corners of your canopy, on the ceiling over the foot of your bed. Make a pencil mark at each location
- Drill a hole at each mark on the ceiling, using the power drill and drill bit. Insert a plastic drywall anchor in any hole where there are no wood beams present
- Slide a 1/4-inch screw through the hole in a swivel joint, from the bottom, and slide two washers over each screw to provide a space between the joints and the ceiling. Insert the screws into the pre-drilled holes and tighten them to secure the joints against the ceiling
- Insert a curtain rod into the openings of the swivel joints across the foot of the bed. Tighten the screws on the joint to secure it in place
- Insert one end of another curtain rod into a opening in the swivel joint along one side of the bed and tighten the screws in place. Repeat this step for the other side of the bed
- Place a drapery socket onto the free end of each curtain rod and expand each one to secure the sockets against the wall, behind the head of the bed. Ask a friend to help you adjust the space between the two curtain rods, until it's equal to the width of the curtain rod at the foot of the bed. Keep the curtain rods parallel with the sides of the bed
- Instruct your helper to level each curtain rod, using the standard level, as you position the drapery sockets on the wall. Make a pencil mark on the wall through each hole in the sockets
- Move each socket aside and drill a hole into the wall at each pencil mark, using the power drill and drill bit. Reposition the sockets on the wall, aligning the openings over the holes in the wall. Insert a wood screw into each hole and tighten them firmly, using the power drill and screwdriver bit
- Slide clip-on curtain rings onto each curtain rod, using enough rings to create the effect with the curtains that you prefer. Replace the curtain rods into the sockets and attach the curtain panels with the curtain rings
How to Clean a Canopy:
A canopy, whether it covers a boat or provides a shaded area around a camper, needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. This job is best done when the weather is nice and the sun is shining brightly. The key to cleaning a canopy is not to use abrasive detergents and to be safe if you are on a ladder
Instructions:- Place your ladder near the canopy so you can apply soapy water to it when the time comes
- Turn on the hose and rinse the canopy with water. Spray it down to get all of the loose debris and leaves from the top of the canopy
- Put 2 tablespoons of dish soap in a bucket and fill it with water. Dip a soft brush in the soapy water, climb the ladder and scrub the canopy. Continue to scrub the canopy thoroughly until the entire top surface is covered with suds
- Rinse the canopy with a hose and let it dry in the sun
