How to Replace a Nintendo DS Skin
The Nintendo DS is a portable gaming device that comes in many colors. For a more custom look, users can apply a skin to the DS. Skins protect the DS from scratches, scuffs and debris, and are typically made of vinyl. They stick to the interior and exterior of the device. When users grow tired of a certain skin, they can easily remove one skin and replace it with another without leaving a sticky mess.- Power off the Nintendo DS and remove any dust or debris from it before the skin is applied. Wipe the DS down with a lint-free cloth. Avoid saturating the DS with water or other liquids
- Close the Nintendo DS and peel the front-exterior skin away from the backing. Carefully line it up to the exterior front cover of the device. Gently lay down the skin on the top cover, but don't try to stick it to the device until it is completely lined up
- Smooth out any air bubbles underneath the front-exterior skin by pressing one finger lengthwise against the skin and pushing against any bubbles until they disappear. Make sure the entire skin is stuck to the device. Repeat the process for the back-exterior skin, if the kit included a skin for the underside
- Apply any side skins to the interior of the device. Not all skin packages come with side skins. Side skins can be lined up to both the left and right sides of the exterior, and smoothed out with a finger until the skin is completely in place and no air bubbles are present
- Open the DS to apply in the inner skin around the top screen. Peel the top screen skin from the backing. The top screen skin can be identified by the numerous small speaker holes on each side of the middle cutout
- Line the skin around the screen and each speaker hole. Gently lay it in place so it is not completely sticking to the device, until it is absolutely lined up. Working from the center of the skin outward, use a finger to press down and smooth the skin until it is completely stuck to the surface
- Peel the bottom screen skin from the backing. The bottom screen skin can be identified by the cutouts provided for the controller
- Line the bottom screen skin up around the screen, and make sure each controller button is accessible and not covered by any of the skin. Gently lay it in place so it is not completely sticking to the device, until it is absolutely lined up. Working from the center of the skin outward, use your finger to press down and smooth the skin until it is completely stuck to the surface
Tips & Warnings
- If moisture is needed when cleaning the DS, apply a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip to help scrub away any stubborn debris. Make sure to clean both the exterior and interior of the DS
