How Red & Blue 3D Glasses Work?

    Vision

    • Before explaining how 3D glasses can create an illusion of a third dimension, it's important to understand how the human eyes work in a normal setting. Each eye sees essentially the same sight, which is why if a person loses one eye they can still see. However, the brain takes each image from each eye and puts them together to form a single whole. What creates the third dimension, and what gives us the ability to perceive depth, is the fact that each eye has a slightly different perspective. This perspective difference is created by the nose being between the two eyes and creating a gap.

    Red and Blue

    • Red and blue 3D glasses attempt to mimic normal sight, and to play a trick on the brain. This is done by creating two very similar images on a flat piece of paper, one overlaying the other. The first image is in red, and the second image is in blue. Sheets of plastic are used to make lenses in 3D glasses with the right usually being red, and the left usually being blue. This means that the right eye picks up the first image, and the left eye picks up the slightly different image. The slight difference in perspective, and the fact that each eye can only see one image which looks to be the same one, creates an illusion of 3D.

     Definition

    • The actual word used to describe the 3D effect is "anaglyphic." It's a stereoscopic motion or still picture in which the right component of a composite image (usually red) is superimposed over the left composite image (usually in blue, the contrasting color) in order to produce a three-dimensional effect when viewed through properly colored filters. While 3D glasses are becoming popular in movies once again, they've been used for years in comic books, puzzles and children's toys.

    How Do 3D Glasses Work?

    Projection

    • For a 3-D movie to work, two images must be projected onto the screen simultaneously. The images have been filmed at slightly different angles, but are superimposed so that they appear to be just one image even if looked at without the glasses. The image without the glasses will seem fuzzy or out of focus, however, because one of the images is projected with a red hue and the other with a blue hue.

    Colored Glasses

    • The standard 3-D glasses come with red on one lens and blue on the other. These colors act as filters; the red lens filters out the red from one eye and the blue filters out the blue from the other eye. The purpose of this is so that each eye technically perceives images that are just slightly different from each other.

    The Brain

    • The purpose of the color filters and the image being shot from two angles is to make the colored glasses work like the eye does when putting together the 3-D world around us. Essentially, the point of using 3-D glasses is to trick the eye into seeing the 2-D screen image in three dimensions. The brain creates a composite of the two images being viewed by each eye into a three-dimension objectivity. By taking images that are just slightly different from each other, the brain is actually tricked into putting them together with an illusion of depth that does not actually exist and cannot be accomplished without the effect of filtering color from the image being transmitted to each eye.

The blue lens on these is blue. I bought them to use with the 3d movies and they work well enough. I would strongly recommend this glass.

Anaglyph 3D Glasses

I ordered a different set of 3D glasses a while back; after reading the reviews of this product I was convinced to buy these 3D glasses. But when I received them I found out that they look very similar to the previous 3D glasses and not like the one in product description image. Also they had the same light glass which doesn't fully block the reds and I get very annoying ghosting still.
I won't recommend buying these glasses at all. Sure their quality is good.

good product

The only reason this product doesn’t get 5 stars is because it's hard to wear these glasses with normal glasses. If you have a prescription, you might have to choose between seeing the screen clearly and 3D, but with a little fooling around you could have some luck. Solid construction and quality of the product and for the price they can't be beat.

Anything is better for 3D viewing than the old cardboard cut-outs that I grew up with.
These glasses are comfortable and durable.
I was looking for a pair that was durable and reusable and had some comfort and stumbled upon these and like the idea of getting enough for my whole family for one low price.

I bought these 3D glasses to use with a PC game I own. After trying them several times with the game, I am quite satisfied with it. The glasses just work well.
