How to Repair an NDSL Top Screen?
The Nintendo DS Lite is a handheld gaming system developed by Nintendo. The system featuring two screens, which come in handy on most DS games. Many games are impossible to play without a top screen, due to missing information. When the screen is cracked, black liquid seeps onto the screen, permanently damaging it. The best way to repair the system is to send your Nintendo DS Lite to Nintendo.
- Navigate to Nintendo's DS Lite Troubleshooting and Repair website (see Resources).
- Enter your DS Lite serial number in the field provided. This serial number is located on the back of your DS Lite and begins with "UG." Click "Get My Repair Options."
- Click "Get My Repair Started." As of March 2011, the cost is $75 to get your DS Lite repaired if you are not covered under warranty. The warranty on the Nintendo DS Lite is one year from the date of purchase.
- Enter your shipping address in the fields provided. Click "Continue."
- Select a shipping option. You can choose to print your own prepaid shipping label, or have Nintendo send you a prepaid shipping label through the mail. Click "Continue."
- Verify that the repair information is correct. Click "Continue to Billing and Payment."
- Enter your payment information in the fields provided. Click "Finish." If you selected to print your own label, do so now. Otherwise, Nintendo will ship a label out to you and you will receive it within seven business days.
- Place your Nintendo DS into a well padded box. Place the prepaid shipping label on the box and mail it to Nintendo. You should receive your repaired system in seven to 14 business days.
How to Replace a Nintendo DS Lite Case:
Taking apart your DS is a simple exercise. The Nintendo DS Lite is a small handheld video game system that comes equipped with a touchscreen LCD. Because the DS is so small and contains such expensive components, it's only natural that it has a durable plastic case for protection. But even this case can be prone to damage. If the case becomes damaged and needs to be replaced, you don't need to send it to a repair shop; you can replace it on your own.
- Instructions
- Turn off your DS Lite and place it facedown on a sturdy work surface such as a table or desk.
- Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw on the rectangular battery compartment cover. Remove the cover and the battery in the compartment.
- Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop the rubber pads off the two screws on the top corners of the back of the DS. Then remove the screws.
- Remove the three other screws on the sides and bottom of the back of the DS, as well as the single screw located in the battery compartment.
- Pull the back half of the case gently off the front and set it aside. The circuit board will now be exposed in the front half of the case.
- Locate the black wire that connects to the side of the rectangular metal card slot and unplug it.
- Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws on either side of the circuit board that secure it to the housing.
- Lift the circuit board straight up, but don't remove it as it is still connected via a screen cable.
- Unplug the orange LCD ribbon cable where it connects to the bottom corner of the circuit board. Remove the circuit board and set it aside.
- Remove the screws on the plastic frame covering the LCD screen and then gently remove the frame from the front housing and screen.
- Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop the four rubber screw covers off the screws on each corner of the front housing around the LCD screen.
- Remove the four screws around the LCD screen.
- Separate the two halves of the front housing and set the back half aside to expose the rear of the LCD screen and the speaker assembly.
- Lift the speakers out of the housing and then pop the screen gently out of the housing as well. Replace with a new housing (available from your Nintendo retailer or online) and reassemble in the reverse order you took it apart.

06-02-2011- Other Thoughts: This cover fit perfectly. The Aluminum is as clear as glass and thick enough to protect for years. It is very protective. I noticed several scratches that my 1st grade son did to NDSi XL case within 2 weeks of owning it. So, I wanted to protect the unit from more damage.

05-31-2011- Other Thoughts: I was having a lot of trouble finding a case for my DSi, one that I actually liked...most seemed to be ugly or way too bulky. These are pretty perfect.

06-10-2011- Other Thoughts: I don't understand why people are claiming this thing breaks. It hasn't shown any signs of wear besides scuffs and scratches on the outer surface. It works as advertised, and I am satisfied with it so far. It allows access to all the outer parts of the NDSi XL without making everything clumsy. Very well executed. <br/> <br/>It's already worth the money I paid for it, as it has lasted me longer than 3 weeks, and doesn't show any signs of wear.

06-17-2011- Other Thoughts: Hard and clear case that is great to protect the NDSi XL. The thing that I liked the most was that it was sold to me at a great price compared to retail stores which sell this for a much more expensive price.
