How to do Origami?

How to Choose Paper for Origami:
- Choose paper that's designed for origami. Washi, Chiyogami, Yuzen, Momigami, Aizome, Shinwazome and Shibori are traditional Japanese papers used for origami and are available in specialty paper stores. These papers typically come squared, which is essential for most origami diagrams. One of the more common papers used for origami is Chiyogami, which is also used for craft projects. The symbols on Chiyogami represent everyday life and often have cranes or tortoises for happiness or pine trees, flowering plum or bamboo for good fortune
- Look for paper that can hold a crease. To create an origami model, you need a paper that can be folded more than twice and that can retain the shape you fold. Butcher paper, multipurpose paper and newsprint work well for beginners. Multipurpose paper can be bought in a variety of colors
- Consider the color or theme of the model. Using a green piece of paper to make a tree adds realism to the model. Some origami papers are double-sided and have a solid on one side and a pattern on the other. Use these for more advanced origami models
- Build a collection of paper for origami. When you see an interesting piece of paper, keep it to use for origami. Post-it notes can be used to make miniature origami models. Wrapping paper also can be used for origami and can easily be cut into squares if it has a grid on the back. Once you find a paper with a weight and texture that you like, stock up on it

05-14-2011- Other Thoughts: I bought this paper to fold origami boxes. It has a nice assortment of color, folds well, and is relatively inexpensive as far as origami paper is concerned.

05-03-2011- Other Thoughts: Although this is Origami paper, I bought it because the squares are exactly the right size for something I wished to wrap (well, many somethings). It worked great for what I wanted, especially because I could use the many different colors.

However, now that I am done with project, I think I will learn how to do Origami. The paper is a nice weight and is easy to fold. And having a choice of ten different colors is great, too.

If I don't do too well learning Origami, I know I can think of ways to use the great colors in collage designs for the cards I make.

04-14-2011- Other Thoughts: This stuff is great for typical origami. However, it is a bit coarse and feels like thin construction paper in its texture and how it takes folds. Otherwise works well, like for large groups of kids--used it with my daughter's girl scout troop.

03-30-2011- Other Thoughts: Ordered this for my son for the holidays, he goes through origami paper like crazy. The paper came fast, 1000sheets is a LOT of origami paper, and we are super-happy with the purchase. In the future, since my son loves origami so much, I wouldn't buy anything else.

03-22-2011- Other Thoughts: This is standard quality origami paper that is excellent for basic to intermediate models. Advanced folders may want larger paper for more complex models, but this is perfectly fine for everything else.

03-15-2011- Other Thoughts: Great for the price (compared to my local place by a few bucks). The paper quality is also good. The squares are small which makes very cute little cranes. Perfect if you're planning on doing any 1k crane project.
