How to Wash a Woolen Overcoat:
Wool tends to repel stains and water. A wool coat only needs to be cleaned a few times per year. Most wool coat labels will instruct you to dry clean it. You can do this, or you can easily hand wash it at home and save the cost of the dry cleaning bill. Never throw your wool items in the washing machine and dryer. Wool fibers will weaken in the spin cycle and shrink dramatically in high heat
- Fill laundry basin with enough lukewarm (never hot) water to fully submerge the coat. Stir in detergent until the top of the water is sudsy. You can use your hand to stir
- Submerge the coat. Gently squeeze it to make sure that soap and water gets into all of the fibers. Allow it to soak for about 10 minutes
- Remove the coat and set it aside. Drain your tub of the soapy water. Rinse it with clean water. Fill it up again with clean, lukewarm water and submerge the coat. Squeeze the coat to rinse
- Remove the coat and lay it flat to dry. This can take two or three days
How to Measure for a Woman's Coat:
