How to Clean a Crystal Perfume Bottle:

Cleaning a crystal perfume bottle is not particularly difficult, but you will need some slightly surprising supplies. Also, you will have to have a light touch so that you do not nick or scratch your bottle while you are cleaning. In the end, however, you will be surprised at how similar cleaning your fine crystal perfume bottles is to cleaning any other type of fine crystal or jewelry.

• Remove all your hand and wrist jewelry. Some types of stones in rings or bracelets can scratch your crystal. Since you will be holding it and rotating it during the cleaning, you should remove them just to be safe
• Prepare your cleaning bowl. Fill the shallow bowl with warm water and a teaspoon or so of the mild soap. Place the bowl in the sink if possible. Lay one of the hand towels in the bowl so that if you accidentally drop your crystal perfume bottle, it will be less likely to shatter
• Remove any metal parts of the bottle. Most perfume bottles will have a metal top and you should take this off before cleaning the crystal so that it does not rust. If you need to clean this part of the bottle, then just use a damp rag and then dry it thoroughly
• Rinse the outside of the bottle in the soapy water. You can use the test tube brush to gently work off any grime or dirt that has gotten into the smaller details of the crystal. Do not scrub hard, but use gentle, circular motions
• Work the test tube scrubber gently into the neck of the bottle. Be very careful here so that you do not chip the neck. The bristles will do the cleaning work for you so you do not need to scrub. Once the test tube scrubber is in the bottle, you can gently twist it to clean the inside, which should not be nearly as dirty as the outside because it is smooth and cannot be handled. If you do have a lot of grime to remove, just be patient. Rinse out the inside periodically and then gently return to scrubbing and it will eventually all come out
• Rinse the entire crystal perfume bottle. Use warm water and fill and empty the bottle several times. Also rinse the outside thoroughly. Any soap scum will leave your crystal looking unwashed and grimier than it started
• Let the perfume bottle air dry completely. Lay it on a clean hand towel and do not disturb it for 24 hours. Once it is dry, you can reassemble it if you like

How to Display Perfume Bottles:

• Wipe the framed mirror down with the window cleaner and paper towels. This will remove any dirt or dust that is on the mirror so that it can reflect light. Place the mirror flat on the surface that you would like to display your perfume bottles on, with the mirror facing up
• Clean the perfume bottles with the window cleaner until they sparkle. When you are displaying your bottles, make sure they are clean of any perfume that may have built up on them from use
• Place the perfume bottles on the mirror. Leave at least a half inch between in each bottle so that light can reflect up onto the bottles. Place the larger perfume bottles towards the back of the display so all of the bottles can be easily seen
• Place the desk lamp approximately 6 inches away from the mirror display. Point the light down towards the face of the mirror. This will cause the light to reflect on the perfume bottles and make them sparkle in the display

• If you own many perfume bottles rotate the bottles that are displayed on a monthly basis. This will keep you display new and exciting
• Use a vintage mirror with an ornate frame to add even more interest and style to your perfume bottle display. Search for an antique framed mirror at garage sales and local flea markets
• Your perfume bottle will get dusty from all of the glass surfaces. This glass surfaces will begin to look dull if they are not cleaned regularly. Clean the mirror and bottles with window cleaner every other day to keep dust away
