How to Make Photo Frames at Home:

Do you have a picture and you just cannot find the right frame? Maybe it is an odd size or what they have in the stores simply does not suit your taste. You do not need fancy equipment to make the perfect picture frame. According to Bob Vila, "Common workshop tools are all that are required to build picture frames. Making the 45-degree miter cuts are best accomplished with a table saw, radial arm saw, or compound miter saw, but a simple miter box used with care can create straight cuts and angles."

• Instructions
• Adjust your miter box or table saw to a 45-degree angle. Hold or clamp down molding and make first 45-degree cut. Adjust the miter box to 45 degrees in the opposite direction. Measure 7 inches on the outside edge of the molding and make your second cut. Repeat this procedure and cut another 7-inch piece. Following this same procedure, measure and cut two 5 1/2-inch pieces of molding.
• Spread the glue on the mitered corners and clamp them together. If optional nails, screws or corrugated fasteners are used, install them now. With a damp cloth, wipe off any excess glue, and allow the proper drying time per the glue instructions.
• Paint or stain your frame to match your décor.
• Cut one 3 1/2-by-5-inch piece of stiff cardboard. Place the glass on the rabbet. Put your picture on top of the glass and cover with the cardboard. Insert one glazier point on each side of the frame with a flat-head screwdriver.

• Avoid choosing frames that are too gaudy. Sometimes there can be a fine line between what looks elegant and what looks tacky.
