How to Connect a Computer to an Overhead Video Projector:

• Connecting a computer to an overhead projector is easy as long as you have the right cords and drivers on your computer. Whether you have a Mac or a PC, you will need a few basic tools, knowledge of your operating system, and, sometimes, a little patience while you work out the kinks. Once you connect your computer to your projector, you can watch movies, show presentations, and work using the larger projector screen

Instructions:

• Identify the type of ports available on your computer. Plug the projector cable into the appropriate port of your computer. For example, some computers have S-video ports, which enable a direct connection between the S-video connection on a projector and the S-video connection on your computer. Computers may also have VGA ports, which are standard for connecting computer monitors, as well as audio/video (A/V) ports, which would enable you to connect your computer to A/V ports on a projector. You may need a cable adapter to adapt the projector cord to your computer port
• Turn on the projector
• Power on your computer
• Install the projector drivers. With later-model computers, the drivers will install automatically. You may see a notification pop up in the bottom right of your computer monitor to alert you that your computer has detected new hardware and is installing the appropriate drivers. If the drivers do not automatically install, you may need to download them or insert an installation disk that may have come with the projector
• Open the Start menu from the Start menu icon, which is generally located at its default position at the bottom left of the screen
• Scroll to the Control Panel option on the right-most tool bar
• Double-click the Control Panel icon to open the Control Panel
• Click on the Appearance and Personalization folder
• Click on the Display folder
• Click on "Connect to a projector" on the left panel
• Choose your connection option. "Duplicate" means that the images that are on your PC monitor will display on your projector at the same time. "Extend" means that the projector will be an extension of your PC monitor, as if your monitor were wider. "Projector only" means images will only display on the projector

How to Paint a Projector Screen?

To paint your own projector screen, you will need patience, a wall dedicated to your project and some special paint. This is not a project with which you should try to take shortcuts nor should you just jump into. It takes planning and preparation.

I will take you through the basic steps of planning, layout, preparing the surface for and painting a white projection screen for a home-theater projector. I am emphasizing white here since it creates a screen for a projector that produces 3,500 lumens or less. For projectors that produce more than 3,500 lumens, use gray paint. If you are unsure of the lumens produced by your projector, refer to the projector's owner's manual or contact the manufacturer.

Planning and Layout:

• Look around the room and find a suitable wall to paint the projector screen on. Be sure you have enough room for the screen and at least two additional inches on all sides for the black-tape border.
• After selecting the wall, remove everything from the wall.
• Your projector should already be mounted and ready for use. Turn on the projector to determine the location and screen size. A general rule for an HDTV-compliant projector is that the viewing distance be around 1.5 times the screen diagonal. So if your couch is 12 feet away from the wall, an 8-foot-diagonal screen is a good start.
• With the projector on, mark the corners of the illuminated area with a pencil. Cycle through the channels of your cable or satellite box slowly until you find the largest high-definition image. Mark the corners of this new illuminated area with a pencil on the wall. Sometimes there are variations in the dimensions of the illuminated area from channel to channel. Marking the largest illuminated area ensures your picture will always be contained with the borders of the screen. After marking the corners of the screen, turn off the projector.
• Carefully align the straightedge with the pencil marks for the largest illuminated area. It is best to have help with this, so that you can keep the straightedge level. Use a pencil to join the lines to form the border of the screen.

Preparing the Wall:

• Use painter's tape to create a border that will not be covered up during the preparation of the wall. Align the edge of the tape with the pencil lines on the wall. Take your time; do not rush through this process.
• Make the room as dark as possible. Then turn on a flashlight and hold it at a shallow angle to the wall so the light skims the surface. Inspect the entire area to be painted for raised areas or other imperfections. Mark these areas with a pencil to make them easier to find later.
• After all the imperfections have been identified, use a putty knife, sandpaper and sheet rock mud to repair these areas. The flatter and smoother the surface of the area to be painted, the better the end result will be. If there are very large dips in the wall, you may have to use a trowel and sheet rock mud to make the surface as even as possible. If you do not have any areas to repair, then skip ahead to step 5.
• Once the screen area has been repaired, go over the entire area again with fine-grit sandpaper to ensure that the entire area is smooth and free of any raised areas.
• Remove any excess dust from the wall by using a clean dry cloth and a wet-dry vac.
• If the wall is a dark color, apply two coats of white primer to cover up the existing color on the wall. If the wall is already white, skip to step 7.
• Apply the screen-paint primer to the screen area. Some manufacturers suggest two coats of primer. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for best results.

Completing the Screen Area:

• After the primer has dried, stir the screen paint's top coat. Be sure to turn the can upside down and shake it vigorously for 2 minutes. Then apply the paint to the wall according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• Remove the painter's tape and allow the paint to dry. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for suggested drying time.
• Use 48mm black tape to form a border around the screen and to increase its contrast. The tape available from Screen-paint Supply looks like black velvet and adds an extra dimension to the screen.
• You can use also use wood molding for a border instead of the black tape. However, using molding is more time consuming and labor intensive, as you will have to prepare and paint the molding before installing it.
• The screen is now complete. Depending on the paint used, it may take several days for the paint to completely dry and provide the best possible picture. I do recommend the two-part paint system from Screen Paint Supply. But there are other, cheaper alternatives like Behr's "SilverScreen" color (Color Chip: 770E-2) available at Home Depot. The basic steps in this article are the same regardless of which screen paint you choose.

00:00:00 02-17-2011 A good projector for kids Overall:
• Other Thoughts: This High Definition Projector works best if the room is completely dark. The picture quality was decent, not great, but for a kid's projector and the price, it's a pretty good deal. Easy to hook up. Arrived quickly and in great shape.

00:00:00 01-30-2011 does what i got it to do. Overall:
• Other Thoughts: i got this TFT Matrix Projector because the price was right i thought id try it out. i had pretty low expectations for it. But for 40 bucks it did great, not the best picture and the color is a little screwy if you pay attention to it. it works alright in a room with all the lights off but if any lights are on it will be hard to see the picture. i put it in my room with no windows so i have no problem with it. there is a built in speaker that can get pretty loud actually. its a really good deal im gonna get a few more for xmas and birthday presents. overall i am satisfied, its kid friendly but great for adults too.

00:00:00 02-25-2011 Value for Money Overall:
• Other Thoughts: I spent XX for this and must say money well spent. My kids love it. Room has to be totally dark and its good for watching cartoons on wall or ceiling not that good for movies ... but again its mentioned its a toy and in that sense it exceeded my expectations.

00:00:00 03-09-2011 GREAT BUY! Overall:
• Other Thoughts: This was an impulse lightning deal buy. I have to say my kids love it. Some other reviews complain about the quality, but these are the same people trying to use this as their main TV. This is a toy people, and the quality is great for a toy. My kids love laying on their backs and playing games or watching movies on the ceiling. I haven't used it the summer yet but plan on using it outside during camping and while having smores around a fire. Only problem is its not very bright. It plays well in darkness and is very easy to see but if there is a lot of light around, it is very hard to see. As with any projector the larger you make it, the blurrier it gets but we got it pretty large and its a great quality picture. If you still are unsure, there are many videos online showing off the quality. So what are you waiting for, buy it!!!

00:00:00 02-13-2011 Remember it's a toy. Overall:
• Other Thoughts: This is an excellent High Definition Projector. If the room is dark the picture is good. It's perfect for my son to watch DVD's on the ceiling of his room or on the wall. He even thinks it's neater than watching a TV. His friends were amazed and love watching a movie on the wall, even the white slate window blinds in his room. Now it's a "treat" to go watch movies on the roof or wall!

I watched a couple TV shows on the ceiling and enjoyed it. Different perspective. I wouldn't watch an intense movie but enjoyed light comedies... maybe I'll progress...

It was exactly what I expected for the price I paid.

Remember it's a toy not a major quality projector. That said it works well for the money.
