How to Wash Gowns:

Whether you tried on one or 100 dresses, your wedding gown will be one of your most treasured garments. After photographs, receiving lines, dinner and dancing, however, your dress may look less than treasured. Cleaning a wedding dress or other gown, whether at home or professionally, is essential to return it to its former glory

Instructions:

• Pretest a spot on the dress hem with mild hand soap and water. Wait for it to dry to see how the dress reacted
• Place a small amount of the mild soap on a toothbrush
• Rub each stain gently with the toothbrush
• Rub still-visible stains again with the mild soap on the toothbrush
• Fill a bathtub with lukewarm water
• Submerge the dress in the water. You may fill the tub with soapy water, but removing soap sufficiently from the dress is difficult without completely draining the tub and refilling it with clean water
• Lay the dress flat to dry without ringing it out first
• Iron the dress with a clean iron to remove wrinkles
• Place the dress in an acid-free box wrapped in acid-free tissue paper. It should be kept in a cool, dry place away from light
