What Is a Memory Card Adapter?
A memory card adapter has many uses in order for data that is contained on it to be transferred to a computer or other device. Typically, an adapter converts a specific type of memory card into another format or size that is required to read the data.

- Types: There are various types of memory card adapters available. Many cameras use their own type of memory card, such as those from Sony. An adapter is usually required to convert the card into a format that can be used with a memory card reader. One of the most common types of formats for a memory card adapter is SD, or Secure Digital.
- Size Issues: Many memory cards are not the proper size to be read by some of the readers that are available. One type of memory card, a microSD, is very small and is used in many types of cell phones for additional storage. This card requires an adapter to convert it into a bigger size that can be inserted into a memory card reader.
- USB: A memory card adapter can connect directly into a USB port on a computer. This type of adapter can support different types and sizes of memory cards. One type of USB adapter is the MobileMate from SanDisk (see Resources). The MobileMate is capable or supporting SD, microSD, miniSD and MMCmobile memory cards. A USB adapter functions just like a portable flash drive.
- Uses: A memory card adapter is used to transfer data from one place to another. A USB adapter can be taken from one computer to another to transfer data. A memory card adapter can also be used as a substitute for a specific type of memory card. This is because a memory card adapter can be used to change the size and type of one kind of card into another.
How to Use the Memory Card From a PS2 on a PS3
With the PlayStation 3 Memory Card Adaptor, it's possible to transfer the contents to and from your PlayStation 2 memory card to your PlayStation 3's hard drive. This allows players who own a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3 to upload all of their old game save files to their newer console. While you cannot save data directly to the PlayStation 2 memory card when playing PS2 games on your PS3, you can transfer data back and forth between the console and the memory card on the PlayStation 3 Home menu.

04-22-2011- Other Thoughts: I like this product, but the front cover thing popped off on the first day I used it (not a big deal, it's unnecessary) and it really do work on the PS3 slim. So it is that necessary for people with modern PS3's.

05-01-2011- Other Thoughts: I've used this device several times and it works exactly as its supposed to. With the new PS3 firmware you can transfer saves back and forth to memory cards and this device supports the 2-way transfer.
