About Remote Control Toys:
Finding the hot toy for your child at Christmas time can be a major challenge. Parents can't go wrong with remote control toys, though. Children love to be able to play with miniature versions of cars and airplanes. It's even more fun when the child can make that toy move without touching it. Small remote control toys have become a popular stocking stuffer in recent years. Larger ones make great Christmas and birthday gifts as well.
History
- Remote control toys have come a long way over the years. Some of the most basic remote control toys used to have only one or two moving parts. For instance, they only had an arm or a head. Quickly these progressed to toys that could walk. Remote control cars soon became popular. These items because so popular, in fact, that there were clubs formed in which owners could race against each other in tournaments. Today, the trend has become making remote control toys small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
Function
- Remote control toys are toys that you can use a device to control them from far away. These toys can be very basic so that children can control them with just a simple joystick controller. More complicated toys require two lever controls and precise timing with the remote control itself. This makes the toys do tricks and special moves on the ground or in the air.
Types
- Selecting the proper remote control toy for yourself or a child can be a daunting task. There are many options. Some connect the toy to the remote with a cord. These are good for children to start with. There are also cars that you can control on the ground without a connection to the remote control. Remote control toys that are more challenging and entertaining at the same time are ones that fly including toy helicopters and airplanes. If vehicles are not your thing, there are even remote control animals such as dinosaurs on the market today.
Size
- Remote control toys range from the very small, to some that are as large as the children that play with them. The popularity of the small flying helicopters are very high around the Christmas holidays. You can find a small stand in the majority of most shopping malls selling these hand held toys. There are also toys such as dinosaurs and large remote control trucks that range from one to two feet in size. That dwarfs those mini helicopters.
Warning
- Assuming a remote control toy is safe because a child meets the age requirements is an invitation for injury. Remote control toys have moving parts. Any could pose a risk of injury to younger children. A child should always be supervised when using their remote control toy, especially if it has moving parts such as propellers that could hit a child's finger, face or other body parts.

05-14-2011- Other Thoughts: My 2.5 year old boy loves this toy and wants to play in the sandbox with it all day if I let him. He can be rough with his toys, but this particular toy seems to be holding up pretty well w/o any damage from my little monster. As one of the reviewers mentioned, it can potentially pinch little fingers. It's because the handle attached to the boom requires some coordination to operate... and most toddlers don't have that coordination. It even took me some practice to maneuver it in order to scoop sand w/ it. So the little boy rather likes to hold the arm of the excavator and scoop sand with the bucket directly w/o using the handle. Doing so, his fingers sometimes get pinched between the hydraulics and arm of the excavator. My boy learned it quickly and he avoids getting his fingers pinched... and it doesn't seem to be a big problem. I guess that's part of learning toddlers get with this toy. Overall, this is a great toy except for the price. But it's made in Germany not in China, so you're buying the Mercedes... 4 stars, not 5, b/c of the price and finger pinching.

04-28-2011- Other Thoughts: My 3 year old son loves this. It's very sturdy and can really dig (in soft dirt or sand only) it won't break ground though. It's easy to maneuver & he fits on it perfectly; in fact it's a little big for him, and he's a big three year old too(45lbs, & 3.5 ft tall) It's the perfect size for my 7 year old who also plays with it. I wish it wasn't so expensive though. As nice as it is, I have to say that it IS overpriced. But if you're like me & know that your kid would love it, you won't be sorry if you get it for him.

05-27-2011- Other Thoughts: it swivels, it digs, and when he discovered the plow moved up and down he was ecstatic, lol. he's 4 1/2 this year and trucks are high on his list, and this one is very authentic and true to life.
