How to Control an R/C Tank With a Laptop:

- Playing with remote-controlled tanks is a rewarding pastime. Normally an R/C tank is controlled by broadcasting commands with a radio frequency remote. However, if you download an R/C remote program you can plug your remote into your laptop's audio port and control it directly from your laptop. This will give you the ability to use your laptop to control your tank or any other R/C vehicle. The only piece of extra equipment that you will need to purchase is a regular male to male audio plug
- Click on the Linux R/C program in the Resource section. Click on the save button, and save the file to your desktop
- Plug one end of the audio cable into the buddy/trainer port of your remote control, and the other end into the speaker port on your laptop
- Run your Linux emulator on your laptop. Type "$ tar jxvf ppm.tar.bz2" and then press "Enter." This will extract the file. Type "Run ppm.exe" and press "Enter."
- Drag the indicator on each of the eight channels displayed on the PPM program. An R/C tank will use two channels, one for each tread; other R/C vehicles will use more channels. Find out which of the 2 channels out of the 8 displayed control your treads. By dragging the channel indicator to the right it will increase the signal to the specified tank tread and control your tank
Tips & Warnings:
- The Linux R/C program will work for all R/C tanks, cars, boats and airplanes that use a controller with a trainer/buddy port
How to Fix Common Remote Control Toy Vehicle Problems?

- Remote control toys can provide hours of fun for kids of all ages. Until, that is, they stop working. Often non-working remote control toys just need a quick fix, not the garbage. Take a few minutes to find and repair the problem, and you'll be up and running in no time
- Instructions
- Check batteries and battery connections first. Try fresh batteries in both the toy and the remote control, making sure that the positive and negative ends of the batteries correspond correctly to the connections. Wipe the battery connections with a clean cloth
- Clean remote control toys that have spent much time outdoors. It's possible that the toy contains dirt or debris that led to a loss of movement. Clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry thoroughly
- Look for loose wires in both your remote and the toys. If you find one, strip the plastic back so that you can reattach the wire. Wrap with electrical tape when connected
- Tighten anything loose on your toys. Face it, you know the toys made some daring escapades that could cause something to loosen. Tighten loose antennas by hand; use a screwdriver or wrench to tighten other loose parts. Electrical tape can provide temporary fixes to broken rotors or antennas
- Open up the remote control toy with the appropriate screwdriver. Repair loose wires with a small soldering iron. Make sure nothing is impeding the motor
- Replace parts as needed. Toy manufacturers often offer replacement parts like antennas, motors or rotors for flying toys
