How to Use a Dome Magnifier?- Domed magnifiers enlarge small print.
Magnifying glasses come in a wide variety of shapes, styles and magnification levels. The devices enlarge text and images for those with low vision and help those with good vision see tiny print. A dome magnifier, or hemispherical magnifier, has a rounded, or domed, top surface. The domed shape allows you to place the magnifier directly against the object that you are reading, unlike traditional flat magnifying glasses. Dome magnifying glasses can be made of glass or acrylic.
Instructions- Place the piece of paper, map or other object that you want to magnify on a flat work surface.
- Turn on a table lamp to provide enough illumination to see the object that you are attempting to read. If a table lamp is not available, turn on all overhead lights to create as much light in the area as possible.
- Place the domed magnifier on top of the object so that it is resting flat on the work surface.
- Slide the domed magnifier over the object using your hand until the center of the round dome is on top of the area you want to magnify.
- Look directly into the top center of the dome to read the magnified text and images.
How to Use a Magnifying Glass:
- Experiment with several magnifying glasses to determine the strength that best suits your needs. Office supply stores are a good source for finding various types of glasses
- Hold the magnifying glass several inches above the text to be read. Move the glass up and down above the page until the best clarity is achieved
- Carry a small magnifying glass with you anytime you may need to sign a legal contract. Even if you wear glasses, this can help with reading the fine print in a loan agreement or automobile purchase or lease
- Look at lighted magnifying glasses for doing craftwork. The light will illuminate and the glass will magnify small parts
- Purchase full sheet magnifying film if you are having difficulty reading the small print in a book. These come in sizes to match anything from a mass market paperback to a full sized hardback or trade paperback book
Tips & Warnings:
- Magnifying glasses are made of either plastic or glass. Plastic clouds over easier than glass, while glass can be scratched easier
- Simple reading glasses are nothing more than magnifying glasses set into frames for easier reading
- If you still have trouble reading using a magnifying glass, see your eye doctor or optometrist to have your eyes checked for any major problems
Magnifying Lens Cleaning and Care:
- Take particular care when cleaning the high quality acrylic lens, to avoid scratches, use only a soft cloth dampened with warm soapy water, never use an abrasive cleaner
- Take care not to touch the lens with sharp objects-when not in use protect the lens by placing the soft cloth bag over the lens
