How to Clean Plastic Containers:
- Clean the plastic containers in hot, soapy water, using a nylon scrubber. Rinse well. Never use metal scrubbers on the containers, as they can damage the plastic
- Remove the stains by trying one of several methods. Try covering the stain with a liquid automatic dish washing detergent (one plastic company recommends Palmolive) and allow it to stand for about 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly
- Soak the container in a solution of 1 tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach to 1 cup of warm water. Allow it to sit for thirty minutes. Rinse until you can no longer smell the bleach in the container
- Remove exterior stains. Try using Bar Keepers Friend (or Cameo or Dawn Power Dissolver) and a nylon scrubber to remove stains. Rinse thoroughly
- Try an oven cleaner for exterior stains. Make sure there is adequate ventilation. Wear gloves and pour the oven cleaner on the stain. Allow it to sit for the time recommended on the can. While still wearing gloves, use a cleaning cloth or sponge to remove the oven cleaner. Do not reuse this cleaning cloth until it has been laundered. Do not reuse the sponge at all. Discard it. Rinse the plastic container thoroughly under hot running water and wash with liquid dish washing detergent with a fresh sponge or cloth
How to Sterilize Plastic Containers:
- Wash the container with anti-bacterial dish soap and hot water. The soap will immediately kill surface bacteria but may not guarantee complete sterilization; combining this will another method below is more effective
- Use a non-diluted alcohol rinse. Both rubbing alcohol and grain alcohol kill bacteria on plastic surfaces
- Soak the plastic container in a bleach-water solution of about 5 to 10 percent bleach. Bleach will not take long to disinfect, so the soaking time is minimal
- Heat plastic. This can be done in a hot dishwasher rinse, but more effective is the microwave. Wet the plastic container first, as the interaction between the microwave's heat and water is what causes sterilization. Place the container in a microwave on high power for approximately two minutes. Both the dishwasher and microwave can melt plastic, however. Poloypropylene plastics are strong and withstand high heat
- Place plastics under a UV lamp. Ultraviolet sterilization is a safe, non-heated method used widely in food processing, laboratories and water treatment. Although a UV lamp is not the most common kitchen or garden tool, UV lamps are commercially available
How to Reuse Plastic Containers:
- Keep those berry baskets you get at the grocery store. Use 2 held together with a rubber band as a basket in the dishwasher to hold baby nipples, cup stoppers or other small items during washing. Add moss to a basket for a small potted plant holder
- Reuse any empty food dish such as butter or yogurt dishes for a fun project for your kids. They can creatively construct an entire city out of these by stacking them. Have them decorate with stickers or markers to make them colorful
- Freeze meals such as spaghetti in small yogurt cups for individual servings for you or for your kids. Just pour them in a microwave safe bowl and reheat when needed
- Organize your garage with smaller dishes. You are able to separate the various sizes of nails and screws
- Ask your local schools or daycares. They may have an art project in which they would need plastic containers

03-05-2011- Other Thoughts: Excellent container and great customer service. I got one with a lid that didn't fit properly and they replaced it immediately. These containers are the best thing out there. Just wish they made REALLY big ones for horse food!

01-07-2011- Other Thoughts: Was sold on this product when I ordered it from TV and used it when they were first introduced. Then I looked around Amazon's site and found them for really great prices, ordered more and was sent them in a very short time. The containers have a gasket that keep things fresh and bug free. You will love these and Amazon.

12-23-2010- Other Thoughts: Excellent storage box. Sturdy plastic. It came with a plastic strainer kinda base which is useful to store fresh herbs after washing as the water settles below that strainer plastic keeping the herbs drier. This plastic is removable. I removed this from my second box for storing rice.

12-04-2010- Other Thoughts: These are fantastic! I am using several of these for my pantry, but they also have a small removable "grate" included, that is lifted so you could put refrigerated items that need "airflow". Just a great all around storage solution.
