The boom box was first introduced in 1970s. Nevertheless, it was taken to a higher stage when big brand names became involved with the concept such as Panasonic, Sony, and Marantz. They developed the early boxes of 1970 to a radio-cassette in one unit. It was clearer and the tuning capacities of AM/FM were more acute than the fundamental units. In 1980, the radio/cassette unit was converted to a more robust and sophisticated device integrating many devices such as the amplifier, and loudspeaker/s.
Since the boom box varies in designs and features, it is advisable to select them carefully. Basically, it comprises of amplifiers, CD/Cassette player, loud speaker/s and radio tuners. They have facilities to record music from many other devices such as mobiles, iPod, computers, radios etc. The modern technology has integrated more features to the boom box making them more compact in size as well as in designs. They are easier to carry as well as easier to connect with other devices than earlier models.
The size of the boom box is important when selecting one. There is smaller one like a hard cover book as well as larger ones like medium size TVs. The larger ones produce high quality sounds and have many features than smaller ones. Even so, portability wise, the smaller ones are better than a larger boom box.
An advanced boom box will have many knobs that enable the user to control sound qualities very well. By using these tuners, the verbal sounds can be reduced allowing more prominence to music. They are integrated with bass equalizers, dual cassettes, microphones, graphic equalizers etc., as well. There are more sophisticated versions of boom boxes in the market at present that are integrated with satellite input structures as well.
Another important aspect to consider in a boom box is the power. Normally, all new boom boxes can be powered with batteries or standard power supply. Voltage wise, they may be different as well. The designs are also a major factor to consider in boom boxes. They are made of plastic as well as metals.
Yet, one can rarely find a boom box made of one material since they are manufactured of many materials. Almost every new design has ports to be connected to flash drives, MP 3, memory cards etc. With all these new features boom box has become one of the most irresistible device to be found in the music scene.
