Details:
- Smurfs is a comic and television franchise centered on a fictional group of small blue creatures called Smurfs, created by and first introduced as a series of illustrated comic strips by the Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford (also known as Peyo) on October 23, 1958
- Cull ford's initial comic first appeared in the Belgian magazine Spirou, and several decades later was adapted into an English language children's television series by Hanna-Barbera Productions, entitled The Smurfs

Origins:
The original term schtroumpf and the accompanying language came during a meal Peyo was having with his colleague and friend André Franquin in which, having momentarily forgotten the word "salt" Peyo asked him (in French) to pass the schtroumpf. Franquin replied: "Here's the Schtroumpf - when you are done schtroumpfing, schtroumpf it back" and the two spent the rest of that weekend speaking in schtroumpf language. The name was later translated as Smurf into Dutch, which was adopted in English.

11-23-2010- Other Thoughts: This smurf is fun to play with as long as you get other smurf toys. Its a great conversation piece if you have it in a office, since other adults think back to their child hood and fondly think about watching this cartoon as a kid. Its fun for kids if they have it in a small village of other smurf toys.

10-21-2010- Other Thoughts: I loved the Smurfs when I was a teenager. We are a musical family. We now have a cute display of this "Smurf Band" in our room, along with an audience of Smurfs I own from my younger years. These are made of the same quality as the ones from the '80's. We love them!

10-18-2010- Other Thoughts: I got the smurfs collection for my 4 year old daughter, she loves it, she plays with them while watching the cartoon. I used to have the collection when I was little, and now, I got it for my girl...and me;) this toys are collectibles and are good for playing too.

10-12-2010- Other Thoughts: My brothers and I probably have about 20 of the Smurf figurines between us. I had thought that Smurfs might be a bit 'yesteryear' but when I got them out to play with some children visiting recently they had a ball. I'm now on the look out for some more Smurfs missing from our collection.
