How to Make the PS3 Work with an Infrared Remote Control:

• Purchase the PS3 Blu Wave Remote by Nyko. Amazingly this item is priced competitively to, think below, Sony's PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote. I purchased mine from Amazon.com
• Plug the Nyko infrared dongle sensor into one of the front panel USB ports. That's it! Now try watching a DVD or Blu-ray Disc by using the Nyko remote to test out the system
• Now this is the bonus step. If you got to STEP 2, you have already added an infrared remote control to your PS3. If you have an infrared universal remote, you will want to program it to take advantage of the infrared sensor just added to your PS3. Reference the programming guide of your universal remote for the procedure to follow

Tips & Warnings:

• The PS3 Blu Wave Remote will not give you additional functionality than what is allowed by the PS3. For example, the PS3 does not allow you to turn the PS3 on and off remotely
• One function that I found that the PS3 Blu Wave Remote had a problem with is getting to the Top Menu in a single key press. The only way I am able to do this is by going through the PS3's pop-up Options menu

How to Use the PS3 Remote on a PC:

• Download the PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application driver to the desktop of the computer (use the link in the Resources section)
• Go to "start," "Control Panel," "Bluetooth Devices." Click on "Add" to add a new Bluetooth device. Hold down the "Start+Enter" keys on the PS3 remote simultaneously. Release the keys after about 20 seconds have passed
• Click on the "My device is set up and ready to be found" box in "Bluetooth Devices." Click on "Next" to go to a new window
• Click on "BD Remote Control" in the window that appears. Click on "Next" to go to a new window. Select "Don't use a passkey." Click on "Next" to close the window
• Press and release the "Playstation" key on the PS3 remote to sync the PS3 remote to the computer
• Double-click on the PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application driver on the desktop of the computer. Follow the prompts to install the PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application driver
• Restart the computer after the installation has been completed
• Run Windows Media Center. Now you can use the PS3 remote to control the functions of the PC
