How to Build a Bedroom Closet Organizer:
Most homeowners are faced with the same challenge, regardless of the size of the house--inadequate storage space for their clothing. Often, the problem is not lack of space, but lack of the proper design to maximize the space that is available. With some pre-planning and a few man hours, the do-it-yourselfer can double her storage capacity and convert an inefficient space into an organized workhorse of a closet.
Get Organized- Look at your clothes to determine what type of closet system will work best. If you have a lot of dresses or dressy clothes, you'll need more single rods. If you live in separates, stack rods one on top of the other to double the hanging space. If you have tons of shoes, plan for more shoe cubes. If accessories are your thing, you'll need drawers.
- Measure the space. Measure each wall that can be turned into shelving. If you have a walk-in closet, consider using the farthest wall for shoe cubes and drawers, while placing rods on both sides for the clothing you wear frequently.
- Draw some rough sketches of each wall. Experiment with several designs to see what will work best. All closet systems have four basic components--rods, shelving, drawers and baskets.
- Decide on the material you want for your closet. Wood adds elegance and luxury, but it's more expensive. Wire shelving or melamine is less costly, and you can quickly see what's being stored on each shelf. If you live in an apartment, you may want stackable cubes that can move with you.
- Locate each stud in the wall with a stud finder and mark its location with a pencil. Buy a steel channel for each stud, preferably one that extends from the floor to the ceiling, for maximum usage of the space. Measure the height of your closet to get the proper measurements.
Purchase and Install Your System
- Buy either a pre-packaged organizer system or the individual pieces you will need. Purchase a steel channel for each stud, shelves, drawers or cubes, brackets for each shelf, and rods.
- Install the steel channels at each stud, making sure that each is level vertically. Since you'll be attaching each to a stud, you should drill holes first, then screw the channel to the wall.
- Place the brackets in the channels to support the shelving and rods. Place the brackets where you think you want them, and experiment with the spacing until you get it to your satisfaction.
- Add drawers and cubes to the pre-determined space. These are easily assembled with a few screws, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Tips & Warnings:
- If cost is an issue, start by designing and building one wall of the closet system, and add more later.
- Use drawers for storing jewelry and undergarments.
- Store seasonal accessories on upper shelves.
- Place folded sweaters on a shelf instead of in a drawer. You can see them better, and the sweaters keep fresh from circulating air.
- Hang pants on top and shirts or blouses below. This provides for better distribution of light, so you can color-coordinate your outfit.
- Don't stop with the bedroom. Closet organizers are available for garages, kids' rooms and the pantry.

07-11-2011- Other Thoughts: I think I bouoght a used one. However, it is never different from the nwe one.It worked perfectly in the wardrobe I got here also!!! I hang this shelf in the middle of the wardrobe to hold some small stuffs and it never craped!!! The hight is also matched perfectly! Also, it can held many many many things, just out of your imagination!!! As the first experience in Amazon, I am so satisfied with this product!

06-20-2011- Other Thoughts: I ordered and got it super fast with prime; bought the 8-shelf organizer and two boxes; used for lightweight clothes that had been just folded on top of a box previously; looks nice; seems pretty strong to be so easy to put on the rod in my closet; doesn't take up much room for the amount of storage I got; I don't understand why the other colors besides white cost more, but I went with the white and am very happy with the purchase.

06-30-2011- Other Thoughts: It works well and holds a good amount of clothing (in my case), however I agree with the other reviewers that because the middle shelves aren't supported, they tend to sag into the next shelf limiting the amount of space. Overall good quality and does the job its meant to do.

05-23-2011- Other Thoughts: I thought from the picture that this Hanging Closet Organizer would be more of a natural material though it is in fact plastic. That being said, it is functioning perfectly for what I bought it for and I would buy more if I needed them.
