About Bike Riding Safety Clothing?
Expert Insight- One of the basic, most important things to remember while bike riding is to wear brightly-colored clothing. This is to ensure that others on the road can see you easily. If you are visible, the chances of someone running into you are a lot lower than they would be if you were wearing a muted color such as black, brown or beige. Colors like orange, red and yellow are perfect for making sure you're visible on the road

- One of the most dangerous things you could do while bike riding is wear something that could get caught up with your bicycle chain. This could cause you to lose control of your bicycle. Examples of things that could get intertwined with your chain are shoelaces, backpack straps or loose pant legs, or any other free flowing item
Theories/Speculation
- It's a good idea to make sure you are wearing proper footwear while bike riding. Sneakers are the only right thing to wear while bike riding. You should definitely avoid flip flops, sandals, high heeled shoes, cleats and platform shoes while you bicycle. These shoes will not assist you in gripping the pedal. Also, it's a cardinal rule to never go bike riding barefoot, because that too will prevent you from properly gripping the pedals

- Anyone who goes bike riding should make sure that they never leave home without a helmet. Head injuries can cause brain damage and can even be fatal. Helmets will protect your brain and head in the scenario that you fall down. When you purchase a helmet, make sure it has a sticker on it that says that it meets the standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Make sure your helmet fits you perfectly (not too small or not too big) and that you always fasten your straps

- If you are going to be bike riding at nighttime, dusk or dawn, you should always make sure that you are wearing reflective clothing. It's easy to find high quality reflective clothing at bicycle shops. Try to look for a yellow or orange colored reflective vest. They usually go for between $10 and $15
How to Wear Bike Shorts?
- emove your underwear. Yes, it may seem unusual, but going commando is definitely the way to go for all bike shorts. The padded "chamois" section that lines the crotch of bike shorts is designed to be worn against the skin. Adding more fabric to that area will result in bunching, chafing and a shorter ride than you had planned--guaranteed
- Apply the Body Glide or other anti-chafing product. Body Glide looks like a deodorant stick, but it is an unscented solid lubricant that feels dry and that will reduce the possibility of chafing from the movement of cycling and the rubbing of the shorts against delicate skin. Use plenty of Body Glide on your inner thighs, genital area and the area of your buttocks that will come into contact with your bike seat. You may be able to skip this step on shorter rides, but for long rides or especially sensitive skin, anti-chafing products are incredibly helpful
- Pull on the shorts. Be sure that the chamois of the shorts aligns with the areas you will want padded during the bike ride. Pull the stretchy fabric of the legs into the correct place on your legs; like pantyhose, the shorts don't always immediately move into the right position
- Apply sunscreen to your legs, particularly the gap between your knees and the cuff of the shorts. Be sure to add a little sunscreen below the cuffs and slightly above them, then move them back into position. The cuffs will inevitably move up as you ride, and you don't want a sunburned stripe where the sunscreen didn't protect you
- Adjust the placement of the chamois and the legs of the shorts once you sit on your bike seat to ride. As long as the pad is not bunched up under you and you align the pad with the seat, you should be able to ride many miles in comfort
