How to Wash:Washing viscose at home avoids expensive dry cleaning bills. Viscose is a semi-synthetic material consisting of chemically treated natural fibers. You should always take viscose suits and jackets to a dry cleaner, to preserve their appearance and reduce shrinkage. Other items, such as blouses, may be washed at home, provided you handle them with care. Always read the care label on your garment before washing it to determine whether it recommends machine or hand washing
Machine Wash Viscose
- Wash dark garments separately from lights, and wash whites separately to prevent colored garments from staining the whites
- Add a gentle washing detergent to your machine. Never use chlorine bleach; it is too harsh for viscose
- Turn your viscose garments inside out before washing them
- Fill your machine drum half full with garments. If you wash a full load of viscose garments, they are more likely to crease
- Set your washer to a gentle wash cycle, at a maximum temperature of 40°C
- Remove your viscose garments from your washer as soon as the cycle is finished. Reshape them while they are still damp. Hang them on non-rusting hangers or lay them flat to dry. Never tumble dry viscose
Hand Wash Viscose
- Fill a basin or bucket with warm water. Add a small amount of handwashing detergent to the water, following the manufacturer's directions
- Immerse your viscose garments in the water. Swirl them gently in the water and leave them to soak for a few minutes
- Remove your garments from the soapy water and rinse them carefully with warm water. Do not wring them out; squeeze excess water out gently
- Reshape your garments while they are still damp. Hang them on non-rusting hangers or lay them flat to dry. Never tumble dry viscose
