How to Buy Maternity Wear:
- Shop for maternity clothes labeled in your pre-pregnancy size. Maternity clothes are designed to give you extra room only where you need it--primarily in the belly and the bust. If you're having twins or have a history of having big babies, you may need a larger size and might outgrow even maternity clothes. If necessary, plus-size shirts and dresses can get you through the last few weeks (don't even bother with pants)
- Buy basic items in stretch fabrics. Cotton jersey is good, and a little spandex is even better. Many department stores sell the Belly Basics Pregnancy Survival Kit (bellybasics.com), which has a black skirt, dress, tunic, and pants in this easy-care fabric for around $150. You can duplicate this idea for less money by buying similar separates at Target.com or OldNavy.com. Motherhood Maternity (motherhood.com) sells a wide range of inexpensive cotton clothes that aren't too fussy or cute, as well as good options for the office
- Buy only one or two bras at a time because you may grow several sizes over the course of your pregnancy, and wait to buy nursing bras until the last two months. Some women swear by the Bravada bra, available at many maternity shops. These can be expensive, but the correct fit is crucial. Maternity stores are a good place to get expert advice on fitting, even if you end up buying elsewhere
- Splurge on at least one outfit that makes you feel great. Whether it's a slinky dress that shows off your shapely belly or a funky pair of pants, find something to wear when you want to look fabulous. Japanese Weekend (japaneseweekend.com) and A Pea in the Pod (apeainthepod.com) offer many elegant styles for special occasions
- Remember, no one leaves the hospital in her pre-pregnancy size. You may need to wear your maternity clothes for a while after the baby is born. Remember to pack a nursing nightgown for the hospital
How to Wear Maternity Dresses:
- Find dresses that hide bra straps. When you wear maternity dresses your bra straps should be hidden beneath wide shoulder straps
- Choose v-neck style dresses. Wear maternity dresses that accentuate your ever growing cleavage
- Consider wrap-around styles. A wrap-around dress will gather at the side and drape across your new pregnancy curves. Wrap dresses can accommodate your belly as it continually grows
- Wear a maternity dress that fits the occasion. You can easily find formal and casual maternity dresses at any maternity retailer. Bella Blu offers many dress styles, including maternity wedding dresses
- Purchase empire waist dresses. Dresses with higher waist lines fit and look better on a pregnant figure
- Look for busy patterns on the maternity dresses. If you do not wish to draw attention to your pregnant belly, you can wear a dress that has a detailed pattern on it

01-07-2011- Other Thoughts: Visitors would come and I always felt under dressed and like a hot mess. With the gownie, there are snaps on top that come undone from the shoulders, just enough for you to nurse your baby and not feel naked while doing it. Not to mention, it's super cute and comfortable. This was the best hospital item I purchased and well worth the money.

01-27-2011- Other Thoughts: I was in the hospital for 2 months after my water broke early with my fourth child. I would have LOVED to wear something other than the hospital provided gowns. This is a wonderful gift to give anyone who is in the maternity ward for long-term stay. Heck, even a week feels like forever.

04-09-2011- Other Thoughts: I bought this gown for my sister. We have not had the opportunity to wear it yet, but she did try it on and it is very cute! I have a friend who bought one and absolutely loved it!

03-25-2011- Other Thoughts: This is a new must for expectant moms. I felt so comfortable in my own gown that did not gape open as I moved around and went back and forth to the bathroom. It was comfortable and cute. It looked great in pictures. It is in great shape after being washed and can be put up for the next time.

02-10-2011- Other Thoughts: I loved this gown. In fact I only bought one and wish I had atleast a few more for the entire hospital stay. It's much easier to breastfeed with this gown than the hospital gowns. It also has nice snaps down the back instead of the ties that the hospital gowns have. I ordered the blue with lighter blue poka dots and got so many compliments!
