- A table runner may be a holiday decoration staple, adding a fun and festive touch to your table setting. You can now have that festive look every day of the year. A table runner, enhanced with a few well-placed accessories, will add a much-needed touch of style to your table and add an element of fun to every meal. Whether you like country, shabby chic or something in between, there is a table runner idea for you.
- Shabby Chic
- Shabby chic is all about relaxed comfort and easy elegance. You can either find a vintage table runner at your favorite second-hand store, or hit your favorite department store for a runner that only looks vintage. If you are coming up empty-handed, try making your own. Again, find vintage or faux vintage fabric that has a touch of the shabby chic design. Small pink flower blossoms on a cream background would be ideal. Have the fabric cut to size, but leave an extra 1/2 inch on all sides of the fabric. Either sew or use a fabric adhesive to adhere the seam allowance to the fabric. Lay the table runner on top of either a bare table, preferably one with chipped paint, or on top of a complementary solid-colored tablecloth. Try to match the color of the tablecloth with a small detail of the runner, such as a blossom. Decorate the table with items that will further enhance your table runner. Mismatched crystal votives, fluted vases and dishware all say shabby chic.
- Country
- Country is another design aesthetic with a preference for relaxed comfort. For this design, you can either hit the stores for a table runner, or you might be best making your own. You can use plaid, a charming country staple, in a small print. Cranberry and tan are good country color choices as are holly greens and apple reds. A cranberry-and-tan plaid table runner with a tan tablecloth adorned with tiny cranberry stars would be classic country. Additional accessories could include star-shaped metal votives, dried flower centerpiece or tea light candles housed under antique cheese graters. You could even go rustic country and use a swath of burlap as a table runner on an otherwise unadorned farmhouse table.

- You may wish you could be on a permanent seaside vacation. This table runner design might give you a hint of the real thing. Purchase or make a table runner in your favorite ocean color, teal green or soft blue. Bamboo, jute or other natural fibers also add a touch of summer beach vacation. Lay the table runner on an unadorned table and decorate with seashells obtained from past trips, seashell candles or a piece of coral.

06-30-2011- Other Thoughts: I had seen something like this recently at a friend's home, and admired how it looked on her table. Rather than trek through various malls and department stores looking for one, I checked this site first and sure enough -- just what I wanted! A good quality item in three color choices with no hassles, no crowded mall parking lots, and a reasonable price. It never ceases to amaze me what Amazon carries!

07-05-2011- Other Thoughts: I love the look of this Jute Table Runner- elegant, yet very earthy and natural. It truly looks beautiful on my wrought iron glass-top dining room table and protects the glass from potential scratches from a pair of very large candle holders I have on my table. <br/> <br/>Yes, it is made of twigs, but they are super smooth...in fact, when I opened it up, I had to check the description just to be sure! I purchased the coffee color and it is a nice black and while I haven't had to wash it yet, it doesn't seem like it would be too horrendous to simply wipe it off with a damp cloth as advised.

05-21-2011- Other Thoughts: I was hoping the reviews were correct and they are. Very nice quality and the extra length was more than I needed but when I expand the table it is perfect. It washes up wonderfully. Rich color matches the room and adds that little extra something. Perfect add to the room.

06-03-2011- Other Thoughts: This Sunflower Table Runner was such a wonderful surprise. The color matched my room decoration perfectly. The extra length is unusual, but terrific as it fits my table with 3 leaves! Along with that extra length, the runner has a very nice hand - extra body for a smooth hang/drape. This runner is of superior quality.
