How to Make a Cell Phone Costume
Cell phones were once a novelty used by wealthy business people but have now become an indispensable part of our world. Everyone from middle school students to senior citizens seems to own one, and most of us swear that we couldn't live without them. So why not make your cell phone into a Halloween costume- Cut a 4-foot long rectangular piece of cardboard. Curve or shape the edges and corners if you want to give it the distinctive shape of your favorite cell phone
- Fold the cardboard in half to create an upper and lower half. This will make your phone look like the popular "flip phone" model that flips open and closed and will also make it easier for you to sit down and maneuver the costume when you are wearing it
- Paint one side of the cardboard as a replica of your favorite cell phone model. Use your own phone for a model. Sketch the design out on the cardboard first to avoid mistakes. Remember to include a large window display where numbers appear, all of the number buttons, a "send" button and an "end" button, all common cell phone features
- Coat the back side of the cardboard with black or silver paint to make it look like the back of a cell phone. Make sure the front side is completely dry before turning it over to paint the back
- Unbend the wire hangers until they are straight. Bend each one into a curved semicircle that will fit comfortably over your shoulders
- Glue the curved wire pieces onto either side of the back of the cell phone. This will allow you to slip your arms through them so the costume rests on your shoulders and hangs in front of you and you will not have to cut holes in the cardboard which would ruin the face of the cell phone
- Attach the black or silver pipe cleaner to the headband with glue. Wear it on your head as the phone's antenna
- Wear black pants and a black shirt as the basis of your costume, then slip the cardboard cell phone onto your shoulders to become a human cell phone
