How to Buy Toy Dinosaurs:
- Consider the age of the child you are buying for. For kids under 3, watch out for choking hazards: If a toy is small enough to fit inside a toilet paper roll, it's probably too small for a child this age

How to Make Dinosaur Toys in Wood:
- Sketch a few practice dinosaur shapes on paper to generate ideas. Avoid overly detailed outlines and sharp curves; maintain a gentle, sloping line for the outline of the shape
- Sketch your best design onto the face of a 1-inch thick pine board. Choose a simple shape for the first toy; you can experiment with more complicated outlines after you are familiar with the jigsaw
- Clamp the board to the edge of a work table or saw horse, so that the shape to be cut is suspended in air
- Start the jigsaw, and hold the saw with two hands against the edge of the wood. When the blade is moving at full speed, guide the blade into the wood, keeping the saw shoe flat against the top of the wood
- Slowly trace the outline of your shape. If the blade begins to bind, guide the blade out through the waste wood, and begin your cut again at a shallower angle
- Thoroughly sand all edges and both faces of the completed shape. Sand the corners until they are rounded. If the toy is intended for a young child, do not paint the toy; the child may put the toy in her mouth

- Choose a remote controlled dinosaur. Remote controlled toys have all the fun of movement while allowing you to control the action
- Select a solar powered electronic dinosaur toy as an educational tool for a child. This will give you the opportunity to stimulate a young mind and teach about dinosaurs as well as renewable energy resources like solar power
- Select a small toy that uses few batteries. Larger toys require more energy and larger batteries. Over time, the cost of batteries adds up and if you're looking to save money, this is a simple way to do it without sacrificing enjoyment
- Search for rare and collectible dinosaur toys. This isn't the best idea for kids, but if you're giving the toy as a present to an adult, collectibility and value adds to its appeal
- Go with a name you recognize and trust. Many of the larger toy manufacturers make electronic dinosaur toys and they usually have much better customer service and larger selections
