    What is lithium-ion batteries?

    Lithium-ion batteries (sometimes abbreviated Li-ion batteries) are a type of rechargeable battery in which a lithium ion moves between the anode and cathode. The lithium ion moves from the anode to the cathode during discharge and in reverse, from the cathode to the anode, when charging. Lithium-ion batteries can be formed into a wide variety of shapes and sizes so as to efficiently fill available space in the devices they power. They're generally much lighter than other types of rechargeable batteries of the same size. The electrodes of a lithium-ion battery are made of lightweight lithium and carbon. Lithium is also a highly reactive element, meaning that a lot of energy can be stored in its atomic bonds. This translates into a very high energy density for lithium-ion batteries. Plus there is no issue with the memory effect, like the nickel-cadium does. When a nickel-cadium battery is recharged before it discharges the majority of its power, it essentially "forgets" that it could fully discharge to begin with. This problem is termed the memory effect.

    What is lithium ion polymer rechargeable battery?

    It's a high energy density, 3.6V/3.7V battery that is not compatible with ordinary batteries, but is widely used in the portable equipment market. It uses lithium metallic oxide (LixCoO2, LiNiO2, LiMnO4) in its positive electrode (cathode) and carbon material (LiXC6) in its negative electrode (anode), with electrolyte LiPF6, LiAsF6 etc, and the Lithium ions inside the battery transfer between the positive electrode and the negative electrode during charge or discharge, namely Rocking Chair Batteries (RCB).

  • Other Thoughts: Worth the price. They cost about 2x more than regular alkaline batteries, but last at least 4-5x longer. I've had a pair in a seldom used (about twice a month) Flip camcorder for over two years and every time I power it up, it's ready to go.

  • Well, if you have a new battery the litte needed power from the computer(when car is off) should not be the reason your batteries are dieing because plenty of people are not having this problem. If an battery was dead, it was usually because a door or most often the tailgate wasn't completely shut.

  • What will cause a battery to lose its charge when it sits?
  • There are several factor that cause your battery dies. The first is that when the battery is cold, their chemical reaction slows down and they are not as powerful. And when it is cold it doesn't take charge as easily either. Then your on boad electronics (clocks, etc.) slowly drain the already weak battery.

  • How does battery-charging without physical contact work?
  • Its using induction charge principle. Essentially the primary coil side of the transformer is built into the base and the secondary coil is built into the toothbrush. The primary winding of the inductive charger transmits charging power to the secondary winding, inside the target device, without making direct electrical or mechanical contact with it. In the target device, power is received with a coil and then rectified by a diode. This DC voltage is used in charging the battery of the device.
